Glomerulus diameter and Bowman's space width in renal microscopic images indicate various diseases. Therefore, the detection of the renal corpuscle and related objects is a key step in histopathological evaluation of renal microscopic images. However, the task of automatic glomeruli detection is challenging due to their wide intensity variation, besides the inconsistency in terms of shape and size of the glomeruli in the renal corpuscle. Here, a novel solution is proposed which includes the Particles Analyzer technique based on median filter for morphological image processing to detect the renal corpuscle objects. Afterwards, the glomerulus diameter and Bowman's space width are measured. The solution was tested with a dataset of 21 rats' renal corpuscle images acquired using light microscope. The experimental results proved that the proposed solution can detect the renal corpuscle and its objects efficiently. As well as, the proposed solution has the ability to manage any input images assuring its robustness to the deformations of the glomeruli even with the glomerular hypertrophy cases. Also, the results reported significant difference between the control and affected (due to ingested additional daily dose (14.6mg) of fructose) groups in terms of glomerulus diameter (97.40±19.02μm and 177.03±54.48μm, respectively).
Information hiding or data hiding, also known as watermarking, has become a part and parcel of covert communication and copyright protection. Maximizing watermark payload is a major challenge for watermark researchers. To overcome this issue, we have proposed a new color image watermarking technique, using residue number system (RNS). RNS refers to a large integer using a set of smaller integers which relies on the Chinese remainder theorem of modular arithmetic for its operation. The proposed method takes pixel values from three watermark images and embeds them into the main cover image. Experimental results presented in this paper shows that the watermark can be successfully embedded and extracted from an image, without distorting the original image using the proposed technique. The high peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and payload values claims the robustness of the proposed method.
Image registration has an imperative role in medical imaging. In this work, a grey-wolf optimizer (GWO)-based non-rigid demons registration is proposed to support the retinal image registration process. A comparative study of the proposed GWO-based demons registration framework with cuckoo search, firefly algorithm, and particle swarm optimization-based demons registration is conducted. In addition, a comparative analysis of different demons registration methods, such as Wang’s demons, Tang’s demons, and Thirion’s demons which are optimized using the proposed GWO is carried out. The results established the superiority of the GWO-based framework which achieved 0.9977 correlation, and fast processing compared to the use of the other optimization algorithms. Moreover, GWO-based Wang’s demons performed better accuracy compared to the Tang’s demons and Thirion’s demons framework. It also achieved the best less registration error of 8.36 × 10−5.
