Assessment of the mechanical properties of structural steels characterizing their strength and deformation parameters is an essential problem in the monitoring of structures that have been in operation for quite a long time. The properties of steel can change under the influence of loads, deformations, or temperatures. There is a problem of express determination of the steel grade used in structures—often met in the practice of civil engineering or machinery manufacturing. The article proposes the use of artificial neural networks for the classification and clustering of steel according to strength characteristics. The experimental studies of the mechanical characteristics of various steel grades were carried out, and a special device was developed for conducting tests by shock indentation of a conical indenter. A technique based on a neural network was built. The developed algorithm allows with average accuracy—over 95%—to attribute the results to the corresponding steel grade.

The actual problem of structural monitoring and modeling of dynamic response from buried building is considered in the framework of arbitrary dynamic load. The results can be used for designing underground transport constructions, crossings, buried reservoirs and foundations. In existing methods, the system of sensors that register the response to a dynamic action does not allow for effective interpretation of the signal without understanding the dynamic features and resonance phenomena. The analytical and numerical solution of the problem of the dynamics of a buried object in a layered medium is considered. A multilayer half-space is a set of rigidly interconnected layers characterized by elastic properties. At a distance, an arbitrary dynamic load acts on the half-space, which causes oscillations in the embedded structure, and the sensor system registers the response. The problem of assessing the dynamic stress-strain state (DSSS) is solved using Fourier transforms with the principle of limiting absorption. As an example, the behavior of an embedded massive structure of an underground pedestrian crossing under the influence of a dynamic surface source on a multilayer medium is considered, as well as instrumental support of the sensor system. The solution in the form of stress, strain and displacement fields is obtained and compared with the experimental data. The frequency-dependent characteristics of the system are determined and the possibility of determining the DSSS by a shock pulse is shown.

Introduction. Inverse problems are a specific type of tasks where the consequences of phenomena are studied to identify their causes. They are widely used in scientific studies, specifically, those dealing with large amounts of experimental data. In the presented paper, inverse problems in mechanical engineering and structural diagnostics are considered. These areas require precise methods to identify internal defects in various materials, which can be critical to ensure the safety and efficiency of technical structures. Despite the many flaw detection methods available, there is a need for innovative developments that can provide higher accuracy and efficiency. This study integrates different scientific methods and technologies. It opens up new perspectives in nondestructive testing for the detection of internal defects in various materials and structures. Its objective is to develop and implement nondestructive testing methods based on a neural network device to improve the accuracy of defect identification, as well as to build a neural network model and evaluate its effectiveness for the refinement of ultrasonic visualization of internal defects in solid materials. In this regard, the task to be solved is to create a reliable tool for accurate visualization of sizes, shapes, location and orientation of internal defects in various materials.Materials and Methods. The technique of determining the geometric parameters of defects in materials through nondestructive testing is used. The approach combining modeling of ultrasonic wave propagation in acoustic medium and artificial neural network technologies is applied. This approach identifies nonlinear relationships between the geometry of defects and the amplitude-frequency and amplitude-time data obtained during signal analysis. Artificial neural networks are a model that can be trained on examples, which provides for an effective solution to problems that are difficult to express in traditional forms. The study uses the finite difference method in the time domain. It is applied to identify and visualize internal defects in materials using ultrasonic nondestructive testing and convolutional generative neural networks.Results. A convolutional neural network has been developed to visualize internal defects using ultrasonic nondestructive testing techniques. This neural network successfully determines the size of defects, their location, shape and orientation with high accuracy and reliability.Discussion and Conclusion. The authors highlight the key influence of defect size on the accuracy of ultrasonic imaging in various scenarios. The validation of the model for three different cases of defects with different mechanical parameters has shown that for successful visualization of defects, the wavelength of the ultrasonic pulse must be ten times smaller than the size of the defect. When analyzing the impact of defect size on the accuracy of the neural network, it is found that the visualization error increases for defects of smaller size. It has also been found that the relative speed of sound in materials has a greater effect on the accuracy of the method than the relative density of the material. Based on the results obtained by the authors, it can be argued that the developed methods and technical solutions are of great importance for future research in the field of flaw detection. They have significant potential for scientific and practical applications.

The article is devoted to solving the urgent problem of improving the method of nondestructive testing of the condition of non-rigid road clothes. In addition to the previously developed approach to determining the mechanical parameters of materials of structural layers of nonrigid road coverings based on solving the inverse coefficient problem of restoring operational elastic modules providing specified displacement fields, an approach was developed that allows determining the parameters of energy dissipation in the structure of multilayer road pavement based on the correction of dynamic hysteresis loops recorded in the field and calculated using mathematical model of dynamic VAT. The article presents the results of numerical simulation of dynamic hysteresis loops for two different variants of multilayer structures. The possibilities of correcting the shape of hysteresis loops and their area by varying the tangents of the energy loss angles in layers of a multilayer medium and the elastic modulus of a homogeneous half-space are shown. The complex correction of the elastic modulus values of the structural layers of road clothes and the calculated loops of dynamic hysteresis made it possible to fully take into account the processes of energy attenuation at a distance from the point of application of the load. During the correction, it was found that the values of the elastic modulus of the road layers and the tangents of the loss angles in them have a complex effect on the areas of dynamic hysteresis loops and the nature of energy attenuation at a distance from the point of application of the load. At the same time, the elastic modulus of the underlying half-space is not limited in thickness to the greatest extent on the area of dynamic hysteresis loops (which led to an increase in the elastic modulus of the underlying half-space from 120 and 150 MPa for road construction variants with a reinforced and non-reinforced base to 170 and 160 MPa, respectively), and a decrease in the dissipated energy at a distance from the point of application This is primarily due to the tangent of the angle of energy loss in the half-space. The obtained values of the tangents of the loss angles are obviously related to the patterns of energy dissipation at the boundaries of the contacting layers of the pavement, and also take into account all possible anomalies and delaminations in the calculated structures. Within the framework of this article, calculated hysteresis loops on the surface of the pavement were obtained for the first time, the deformation energy was calculated based on their areas, and the possibility of their comparison with those registered experimentally was proved.

The article is devoted to the study of the steady harmonic oscillation excitation processes by a surface source in a multilayer linearly elastic layered half-plane with an internal defect. The application of the work results is associated with the design and assessment of the multilayer structures state, such as geological structures, non-rigid pavements, layered composites. The study is based on the use of the boundary element method and the construction of boundary equations with respect to displacements at the defect boundary. Using the integral Fourier transform, fundamental solutions for a multilayer half-plane satisfying the stress-free conditions at the upper boundary of the domain are constructed. A feature of the construction is the good computational ability of the proposed algorithm with a large number of layers. The basic one is the construction of a solution for a homogeneous half-plane. This allows you to implement parallel computing. In the numerical implementation, a spline approximation of the defect boundary is used. Linear boundary elements are applied. As an example, a comparative analysis of the amplitude-frequency characteristics on the surface of the half-plane is given for cases of a limited defect, its absence and contact of layers without friction on the entire boundary. This allows us to draw conclusions about the possibility of identifying internal damage at the boundaries of layers by monitoring the wave field on the surface of a multilayer structure.
