I studied Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and obtained my Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Sciences (Molecular Biology) at the UNAM, working on calcium binding to isolated nuclei from rat hepatocytes and the transport of calcium in Kluyveromyces lactis, respectively. I spent 3 years in Dr. Carolyn Slayman’s lab at Yale University. I characterized the chemical modification of the Neurospora crassa plasma membrane H+-ATPase by fluorescent maleimides. I teach Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM. My research interests: Mitochondrial function of Ustilago maydis, energy metabolism of fungi, structure–function of fungal proteins, such as the plasma membrane H+ATPase of yeast, the alternative oxidase, and the type II NADH dehydrogenases.
