Security, privacy, and transparency aspects of the Internet of Things (IoT) sensors have recently raised significant concerns among the public and policymakers. The distributed ledger and Blockchain technologies had brought solutions through transparently bridging two or multiple untrusted parties. In this research, a novel architecture for a smart building system, including a control system and automatic approaches, is proposed. An efficient cluster head selection algorithm is proposed to select the desired cluster head with the consideration of low energy consumption and fast head selection. An enhanced combination of IoT forwarding devices and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) technology is further advanced. Furthermore, the proposed “DistBlockBuilding” architecture is implemented for managing a safe and secure data transfer from one surface to another surface. Besides, Blockchain technology is performed for transferring data within the smart building. Finally, the performance of IoT-SDN based secured networks is evaluated.

Greenhouse gas emitted by the transport sector around the world is a serious issue of concern. To minimize such emission the automobile engineers have been working relentlessly. Researchers have been trying hard to switch fossil fuel to alternative fuels and attempting to various driving strategies to make traffic flow smooth and to reduce traffic congestion and emission of greenhouse gas. Automobile emits a massive amount of pollutants such as Carbon Monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), carbon dioxide (CO2), particulate matter (PM), and oxides of nitrogen (NOx). Intelligent transport system (ITS) technologies can be implemented to lower pollutant emissions and reduction of fuel consumption. This paper investigates the ITS techniques and technologies for the reduction of fuel consumption and minimization of the exhaust pollutant. It highlights the environmental impact of the ITS application to provide the state-of-art green solution. A case study also advocates that ITS technology reduces fuel consumption and exhaust pollutant in the urban environment.

Condominium network refers to intra-organization networks, where smart buildings or apartments are connected and share resources over the network. Secured communication platform or channel has been highlighted as a key requirement for a reliable condominium which can be ensured by the utilization of the advanced techniques and platforms like Software-Defined Network (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Blockchain (BC). These technologies provide a robust, and secured platform to meet all kinds of challenges, such as safety, confidentiality, flexibility, efficiency, and availability. This work suggests a distributed, scalable IoT-SDN with Blockchain-based NFV framework for a smart condominium (DistB-Condo) that can act as an efficient secured platform for a small community. Moreover, the Blockchain-based IoT-SDN with NFV framework provides the combined benefits of leading technologies. It also presents an optimized Cluster Head Selection (CHS) algorithm for selecting a Cluster Head (CH) among the clusters that efficiently saves energy. Besides, a decentralized and secured Blockchain approach has been introduced that allows more prominent security and privacy to the desired condominium network. Our proposed approach has also the ability to detect attacks in an IoT environment. Eventually, this article evaluates the performance of the proposed architecture using different parameters (e.g., throughput, packet arrival rate, and response time). The proposed approach outperforms the existing OF-Based SDN. DistB-Condo has better throughput on average, and the bandwidth (Mbps) much higher than the OF-Based SDN approach in the presence of attacks. Also, the proposed model has an average response time of 5% less than the core model.

Skin cancer is among the most common cancer types worldwide. Automatic identification of skin cancer is complicated because of the poor contrast and apparent resemblance between skin and lesions. The rate of human death can be significantly reduced if melanoma skin cancer could be detected quickly using dermoscopy images. This research uses an anisotropic diffusion filtering method on dermoscopy images to remove multiplicative speckle noise. To do this, the fast-bounding box (FBB) method is applied here to segment the skin cancer region. We also employ 2 feature extractors to represent images. The first one is the Hybrid Feature Extractor (HFE), and second one is the convolutional neural network VGG19-based CNN. The HFE combines 3 feature extraction approaches namely, Histogram-Oriented Gradient (HOG), Local Binary Pattern (LBP), and Speed Up Robust Feature (SURF) into a single fused feature vector. The CNN method is also used to extract additional features from test and training datasets. This 2-feature vector is then fused to design the classification model. The proposed method is then employed on 2 datasets namely, ISIC 2017 and the academic torrents dataset. Our proposed method achieves 99.85%, 91.65%, and 95.70% in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity, respectively, making it more successful than previously proposed machine learning algorithms.

Early identification of diabetic retinopathy (DR) is critical as it shows few symptoms at the primary stages due to the nature of its gradual and slow growth. DR must be detected at the early stage to receive appropriate treatment, which can prevent the condition from escalating to severe vision loss problems. The current study proposes an automatic and intelligent system to classify DR or normal condition from retina fundus images (FI). Firstly, the relevant FIs were pre-processed, followed by extracting discriminating features using histograms of oriented gradient (HOG), Shearlet transform, and Region-Based Convolutional Neural Network (RCNN) from FIs and merging them as one fused feature vector. By using the fused features, a machine learning (ML) based faster RCNN classifier was employed to identify the DR condition and DR lesions. An extended experiment was carried out by employing binary classification (normal and DR) from three publicly available datasets. With a testing accuracy of 98.58%, specificity of 97.12%, and sensitivity of 95.72%, this proposed faster RCNN deep learning technique with feature fusion ensured a satisfactory performance in identifying the DR compared to the relevant state-of-the-art works. By using a generalization validation strategy, this fusion-based method achieved a competitive performance with a detection accuracy of 95.75%.
