Energy management and exchange have increasingly shifted from concentrated to hierarchical modes. Numerous issues have arisen in the decentralized energy sector, including the storage of customer data and the need to ensure data integrity, fairness, and accountability in the transaction phase. The problem is that in the field of the innovative technology of blockchain and its applications, with the energy sector still in the developmental stages, there is still a need for more research to understand the full capacity of the technology in the field. The main aim of this work was to investigate the state of the current research of blockchain technologies as well as their application within the field of energy. This work also set out to identify certain research gaps and provide a set of recommendations for future directions. Among these research gaps is the application of blockchain in decentralized storage, the integration of blockchain with artificial intelligence, and security and privacy concerns, which have not received much attention despite their importance. An analysis of fifty-seven carefully reviewed studies revealed that the emerging blockchain which provides privacy-protection technologies in cryptography and other areas that can be integrated to address users’ privacy concerns is another aspect that needs further investigation. Grid operations, economies, and customers will all learn from blockchain technology as it provides disintermediation, confidentiality, and tamper-proof transfers. Moreover, it provides innovative ways for customers and small solar generators to participate more actively in the electricity sector and to benefit from their properties. Blockchains are a rapidly evolving field of research and growth. A study of this emerging technology is necessary to increase comprehension, to educate the body of expertise on blockchains, and to realize its potential. This study recommends that future work investigates the potential application of blockchain in the energy sector as well as the challenges that face its implementation from the perspective of policy makers. This future approach will enable researchers to direct their focus to the case studies approach, which will facilitate and ease the application of blockchain technology.

This study provides a techno-financial evaluation of two sites in Malaysia: Kudat, located on the coast of the northernmost part of Sabah, the state of East Malaysia with promising wind potential, and Putrajaya in the Klang Valley region with moderate wind potential at high elevations similar to the dominant cities in Malaysia. Three small-scale wind turbines were evaluated, taking into account a nominal electrical power generation below 100 kW. The research is focused on 220 residential households. The software used to perform the evaluation was Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER). The research novelty is the examination of the non-hybrid small-scale turbines at high elevations for regions with low wind speed, such as Malaysia. Regardless of the wind farms’ financial profit, this study used the net present cost (NPC) analysis in all cases. This research demonstrates the feasibility of small-scale wind turbines mounted at high elevations for generating sufficient energy. The results indicate that in both areas, the RX-20KH3 model is the best option, and the costs of the FH-5000 and RX-20KH3 farms are proportionate for a renewable project. Furthermore, with government support, the WES80 farm could be suitable.

With the rise in the demand for electric vehicles, the need for a reliable charging infrastructure increases to accommodate the rapid public adoption of this type of transportation. Simultaneously, local electricity grids are being under pressure and require support from naturally abundant and inexpensive alternative energy sources such as wind and solar. This is why the world has recently witnessed the emergence of renewable energy-based charging stations that have received great acclaim. In this paper, we review studies related to this type of alternative energy charging infrastructure. We provide comprehensive research covering essential aspects in this field, including resources, potentiality, planning, control, and pricing. The study also includes studying and clarifying challenges facing this type of electric charging station and proposing suitable solutions for those challenges. The paper aims to provide the reader with an overview of charging electric vehicles through renewable energy and establishing the ground for further research in this vital field.

The rapid development of smart technologies and data analytics empowers most industries to evolve their systems and introduce innovative applications. Consequently, smart metering technology, an internet of things-based application service, is diffusing rapidly in the energy sector. Regardless of its associated benefits, smart meters continue to struggle from consumers’ acceptance. To promote smart meters’ successful deployment, research is needed to better understand consumers’ acceptance of smart metering. Motivated by these concerns, a smart meter acceptance model is developed to evaluate the moderation role of experience and personal innovativeness factors among residential consumers. A cross-sectional research design was used in this study. Data were collected using a self-administrated questionnaire from 318 smart meters consumers who have had experience in using it. Hypothetical relationships were assessed and validated using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The empirical findings exert the moderating role of experience and personal innovativeness of smart meter acceptance that achieved an acceptable fit with the data, and specifically, five out of nine hypotheses were supported.

The positive effects of interest on different aspects, e.g., learning and education, economy, psychological well-being, and social relations, have been widely addressed by many psychological and physiological studies in the last two decades. While the psychological work has investigated this impact of interest theoretically, the physiological studies have focused more on the modulatory effects. However, some studies have addressed both sides of the effects. In this work, we conduct a comprehensive review of physiological studies on interest detection, from different perspectives carried out between 2003 and 2019. A lack of connection between the psychological and physiological studies was identified. Therefore, this paper aims to integrate the unique psychological and physiological aspects and characteristics of interest to form a base for future research by considering the pros and cons of the included studies. For example, considering the two types of interest (situational and individual) the detected interest in learning, gaming, and advertisement’s physiological experiments could be referring specifically to situational interest. Hence, bridging the gap between both physiological and psychological studies is essential for improving the research on interest. Furthermore, we propose several suggestions for future work direction.

The integration of large-scale wind farms and large-scale charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) into electricity grids necessitates energy storage support for both technologies. Matching the variability of the energy generation of wind farms with the demand variability of the EVs could potentially minimize the size and need for expensive energy storage technologies required to stabilize the grid. This paper investigates the feasibility of using the wind as a direct energy source to power EV charging stations. An interval-based approach corresponding to the time slot taken for EV charging is introduced for wind energy conversion and analyzed using different constraints and criteria, including the wind speed averaging time interval, various turbines manufacturers, and standard high-resolution wind speed datasets. A quasi-continuous wind turbine’s output energy is performed using a piecewise recursive approach to measure the EV charging effectiveness. Wind turbine analysis using two years of wind speed data shows that the application of direct wind-to-EV is able to provide sufficient constant power to supply the large-scale charging stations. The results presented in this paper confirm that the potential of direct powering of EV charging stations by wind has merits and that research in this direction is worth pursuing.

A large part of the Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart meters is considered a method to achieve energy efficiency, sustainable development, and the potential of improving the quality, reliability, and efficiency of power supply. These outcomes indicate the importance of the inherent capacity for profound implications on storage, sale, and distribution of electrical power supply. A few of the existing literature review identified the challenges of primary consumer adoption in terms of privacy, eco-efficient feedback, and technology awareness. Provided that these factors were investigated without theoretical association, this study examined the barriers to the adoption of IoT-based smart meters technology by developing a model representing the users’ intention to adopt smart meters by drawing on the variables of the extended Unified Theory of Acceptance And Use of Technology (UTAUT2). Data were collected from 318 users of smart meter from two cities in Malaysia, while the model was validated using a multi-analytic approach using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), and the results from SEM were used as inputs for a neural network model to predict acceptance factors. As a result, it was found that technology awareness and eco-effective feedback were the important determinants with a positive impact on the adoption of smart meter technology, while privacy concerns led to an adverse impact. Overall, these study findings contribute useful insights and implications for users, utilities; regulators, and policymakers.

In recent years, wind energy has gained extensive attention in the recent years in various countries due to the high energy demand of energy and shortage of traditional electric energy sources. Because wind energy constitutes a cost effective and environmentally friendly source, it can significantly contribute toward the reduction of the ever-increasing carbon emissions. It is one of the fastest growing green technologies worldwide, with a total generation share of 564 GW as of the end of 2018. In Malaysia, wind energy has been a hot topic in both academia and green energy industry. In this paper, the current status of wind energy research in Malaysia is reviewed. Different contributing factors such as potentiality and assessments, wind speed and direction modeling, wind prediction and spatial mapping, and optimal sizing of wind farms are extensively discussed. This paper discusses the progress of all studies related to wind energy and presents conclusions and recommendations for improving wind energy research in Malaysia.

Customer relationship management (CRM) is an innovative technology that seeks to improve customer satisfaction, loyalty, and profitability by acquiring, developing, and maintaining effective customer relationships and interactions with stakeholders. Numerous researches on CRM have made significant progress in several areas such as telecommunications, banking, and manufacturing, but research specific to the healthcare environment is very limited. This systematic review aims to categorise, summarise, synthesise, and appraise the research on CRM in the healthcare environment, considering the absence of coherent and comprehensive scholarship of disparate data on CRM. Various databases were used to conduct a comprehensive search of studies that examine CRM in the healthcare environment (including hospitals, clinics, medical centres, and nursing homes). Analysis and evaluation of 19 carefully selected studies revealed three main research categories: (i) social CRM ‘eCRM’; (ii) implementing CRMS; and (iii) adopting CRMS; with positive outcomes for CRM both in terms of patients relationship/communication with hospital, satisfaction, medical treatment/outcomes and empowerment and hospitals medical operation, productivity, cost, performance, efficiency and service quality. This is the first systematic review to comprehensively synthesise and summarise empirical evidence from disparate CRM research data (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed) in the healthcare environment. Our results revealed that substantial gaps exist in the knowledge of using CRM in the healthcare environment. Future research should focus on exploring: (i) other potential factors, such as patient characteristics, culture (of both the patient and hospital), knowledge management, trust, security, and privacy for implementing and adopting CRMS and (ii) other CRM categories, such as mobile CRM (mCRM) and data mining CRM.

Today’s increasing demand for electricity requires solutions that better align with energy demand and supply. Innovative technological solutions such as smart metering applications are gaining popularity among electricity providers. Despite numerous benefits, smart meters, a part of the technology on the Internet of Things (IoT), continue to struggle for widespread consumer acceptance due to limited knowledge on electricity savings and environmental awareness. These factors were examined in isolation and have not been theoretically incorporated or examined. Hence, this study investigates the factors that influence residential consumers’ acceptance of smart meters by integrating electricity-saving knowledge and environmental awareness with the second generation of “unified theory of acceptance and use of technology” (UTAUT2). The literature revealed an important link between users’ behavioural intention and users’ use behaviour. Well-established theories of acceptance like “technology acceptance model” (TAM) and UTAUT, incorporate the behavioural intention variable in the nomological network of technology adoption determinants. This study highlighted the impact of users’ behavioural intention on users’ use behaviour, which was not examined previously by any of the smart meter acceptance models. The data were collected from 318 consumers of residential smart meters in Putrajaya and Malacca, the cities in Malaysia, and were statistically tested using SME-PLS The study confirms that adding electricity-saving knowledge and VOLUME XX, 2017 1 environmental awareness to the UTAUT2 leads to a significant increase in the explained variance in consumer acceptance of smart meter.

This paper primarily aims to provide a systematic review of factors influencing the individuals’ acceptance of Internet of things (IoT). There are numerous studies in literature that examine factors affecting technology acceptance. However, the studies on the review for acceptance of Internet of Things is limited. This study conducted a review and analysis of 32 articles from academic journals and conference proceedings published about the adoption, acceptance and diffusion of IoT. According to the review outcome, there are increasing numbers of studies that have been conducted in the IoT acceptance among individuals hailing from various points of view, with different factors affecting such viewpoints. Nevertheless, it was also noted that a theoretical, methodological and empirical study has yet to be carried out in the field to determine the factors related to the context of its application. The findings also led the author to recommend more future theoretical, methodological and empirical research to be conducted on the topic.

The main objective of this paper is to review the existing studies regarding customer relationship management (CRM) in healthcare organization between 2005 and 2015. MEDLINE, Web of science, Scopus, ACM Digital Library, Emerald Management, ScienceDirect, IEEExplore, SpringerLink, and Google scholar were comprehensively searched using the terms “customer relationship management”, Or “CRM”, AND “healthcare”. Forty-one articles were found, selected and carefully reviewed to their direct relevance and significance. Findings indicate that there is a lack of CRM research in the field of healthcare as in general, and the concept of CRM is new to the healthcare field as the amount of studies has grown significantly from 2010. Furthermore, the existing research regarding CRM in healthcare falls into four main classifications - (1) CRM in general, (2) e-CRM, (3) implementation, and (4) adoption. Issues and subjects regarding each CRM research classification was discussed. However, most of the found studies were conducted based on a review method, in which more empirical evidence is needed.
