Industrial automation uses robotics and software to operate equipment and procedures across industries. Many applications integrate IoT, machine learning, and other technologies to provide smart features that improve the user experience. The use of such technology offers businesses and people tremendous assistance in successfully achieving commercial and noncommercial requirements. Organizations are expected to automate industrial processes owing to the significant risk management and inefficiency of conventional processes. Hence, we developed an elaborative stepwise stacked artificial neural network (ESSANN) algorithm to greatly improve automation industries in controlling and monitoring the industrial environment. Initially, an industrial dataset provided by KLEEMANN Greece was used. The collected data were then preprocessed. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to extract features, and feature selection was based on least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO). Subsequently, the ESSANN approach is proposed to improve automation industries. The performance of the proposed algorithm was also examined and compared with that of existing algorithms. The key factors compared with existing technologies are delay, network bandwidth, scalability, computation time, packet loss, operational cost, accuracy, precision, recall, and mean absolute error (MAE). Compared to traditional algorithms for industrial automation, our proposed techniques achieved high results, such as a delay of approximately 52%, network bandwidth accomplished at 97%, scalability attained at 96%, computation time acquired at 59 s, packet loss achieved at a minimum level of approximately 53%, an operational cost of approximately 59%, accuracy of 98%, precision of 98.95%, recall of 95.02%, and MAE of 80%. By analyzing the results, it can be seen that the proposed system was effectively implemented.

In recent years, neurological diseases have become a standout amongst all the other diseases and are the most important reasons for mortality and morbidity all over the world. The current study’s aim is to conduct a pilot study for testing the prototype of the designed glove-wearable technology that could detect and analyze the heart rate and EEG for better management and avoiding stroke consequences. The qualitative, clinical experimental method of assessment was explored by incorporating use of an IoT-based real-time assessing medical glove that was designed using heart rate-based and EEG-based sensors. We conducted structured interviews with 90 patients, and the results of the interviews were analyzed by using the Barthel index and were grouped accordingly. Overall, the proportion of patients who followed proper daily heart rate recording behavior went from 46.9% in the first month of the trial to 78.2% after 3–10 months of the interventions. Meanwhile, the percentage of individuals having an irregular heart rate fell from 19.5% in the first month of the trial to 9.1% after 3–10 months of intervention research. In T5, we found that delta relative power decreased by 12.1% and 5.8% compared with baseline at 3 and at 6 months and an average increase was 24.3 ± 0.08. Beta-1 remained relatively steady, while theta relative power grew by 7% and alpha relative power increased by 31%. The T1 hemisphere had greater mean values of delta and theta relative power than the T5 hemisphere. For alpha ( < 0.05) and beta relative power, the opposite pattern was seen. The distinction was statistically significant for delta ( < 0.001), alpha ( < 0.01), and beta-1 ( < 0.05) among T1 and T5 patient groups. In conclusion, our single center-based study found that such IoT-based real-time medical monitoring devices significantly reduce the complexity of real-time monitoring and data acquisition processes for a healthcare provider and thus provide better healthcare management. The emergence of significant risks and controlling mechanisms can be improved by boosting the awareness. Furthermore, it identifies the high-risk factors besides facilitating the prevention of strokes. The EEG-based brain-computer interface has a promising future in upcoming years to avert DALY.

US manufacturers’ capabilities have consistently been degrading over the past few decades with no end in sight. To ebb this tide and assist the decision-makers in designing better configurations and system capabilities, this paper proposes the use of smart manufacturing systems (SMS) to develop a framework that generates and evaluates pre-implementation near optimal manufacturing configurations and provide guidance to establishing appropriate information messaging protocols between system components using hybrid simulation modelling. The framework calls for the implementation of computer-based tools including an expert system to identify the required machines and their corresponding characteristics, a business process modelling and notation tool to capture the process plan in an object-oriented fashion and an agent unified modelling language tool to guide the application of message sequence diagram and state charts, in addition, a hybrid simulation tool to assist in determining the correct configuration, an agent-based modelling tool to capture the behaviour of the required machines and a discrete event simulation tool to mimic the process flow. The application of the proposed framework to a manufacturing case study shows positive outcomes to support upper management in the planning phase of establishing a SMS or evaluating an existing one.

The selection of suitable composite material for high-strength industrial applications, from the list of available alternatives, is a tedious task as it requires an optimized structural performance-based solution. This study aimed to optimize the concentration of fillers, i.e., vinyl tri-ethoxy silane and absorbed gamma-dose, to enhance the properties of an industrial scale polymer, i.e., ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The UHMWPE hybrids, in addition to silane, were treated with (30, 65, and 100 kGy) gamma dose and then tested for ten application-specific structural and performance attributes. The relative importance of attributes based on an 11-point fuzzy conversation was used for establishing the material assessment graph and corresponding adjacency matrix. Afterwards, the normalized values of attributes were used to establish the decision matrix for each alternative. The normalization was performed after the identification of high obligatory valued (HOV) and low obligatory valued (LOV) attributes. After this, suitability index values (SIVs) were calculated for ranking the hybrids that revealed hybrids 65 kGy irradiated the hybrid as the best choice and ranked as first among the existing alternatives. The major responsible factors were higher oxidation strength, a dense cross-linking network, and elongation at break. The values of the aforementioned factors for 65 kGy irradiated hybrids were 0.24, 91, and 360 MPa, respectively, as opposed to 0.54, 75, and 324 MPa for 100 kGy irradiated hybrids, thus placing the latter in second place regarding higher values of Yield Strength and Young Modulus. Finally, it is believed that the reported results and proposed model in this study will improve preoperative planning as far as considering these hybrids for high-strength industrial applications including total joint arthroplasty, textile-machinery pickers, dump trucks lining ships, and harbors bumpers and sliding, etc.

With 212 locations serving a geographical area three times the size of the state of Texas, our international client has been experiencing unexpected failures in his portfolio of thousands of refrigeration units, resulting in an associated loss of $1.4 million. These losses have been attributed to lapses in food quality caused by improper refrigeration, and the adopted reactive maintenance strategy of the refrigeration units. To assist our client in complying with the cold-chain regulations of food safety and mitigate such losses, the agent-based simulation was used to model and assess the viability of two distinct massively populated Internet of Things (IoT) alternatives. The first (alternative A) involves monitoring the availability of each of the refrigeration units and signaling for the initiation of repair processes and food removal from failed units when the cooling temperature differs from a specified threshold and a more sophisticated and expensive alternative B that involves the adoption of the added capability of a condition-based predictive maintenance strategy to reduce unplanned downtime and mitigate or eliminate the causes of failure. Using historical data, a simulation of the current operations was first modeled, validated, and then augmented with capabilities to address the operational characteristics of the proposed IoT implementations. Results of financial analysis results including the probabilistic risk analyses, that account for the variations and the probability distributions of the assumption parameters, showed alternative A to be superior, with a mean net present value (NPV) of $416,703, and a modified IRR of about 18.77% exceeding the project cost of capital of 12.80% with complete certainty. The client was also advised that a 30% reduction in the acquisition cost would make investment B as viable as investment A.
