The presented article deals with the issue of solving bottlenecks in the logistics flow of a manufacturing company. The Tx Plant Simulation software tool is used to detect bottlenecks and deficiencies in the company’s production, logistics and transportation systems. Together with the use of simulation methods and lean manufacturing tools, losses in business processes are eliminated and consequently flow throughput is improved. In the TX Plant Simulation software environment, using Bottleneck analyzer, bottlenecks were defined on the created simulation model and a method of optimizing logistics flows was designed and tested by introducing the Kanban pull system. This resulted in an improvement and throughput of the entire logistics flow, a reduction in inter-operational stocks and an increase in the efficiency of the production system as a whole.

The foaming device can be used to carry out mass transfer and heat exchange processes between gas and liquid and for cleaning gases in the chemical, petrochemical, food, and related industries. A paper presented a combined contact device, which increases the efficiency of mass transfer, avoid clogging by creating a high-intensity, turbulized gas-liquid layer, which does not allow dispersed particles to accumulate on the sheets of the tray and stabilizer, provides a better dip of the liquid on the tray, with a significant decrease in the hydraulic resistance of the separation and mass transfer equipment. The article is considered a theoretical approach to defining the hydrodynamic performances of a combined contact device, determine critical gas mass value, at which the dynamic foam layer becomes unstable. The realization of the stabilization method of the gas-liquid layer greatly extends the scope of foaming devices and opens new possibilities for intensifying varied technological processes.

Installations for the treatment of oilfield wastewater have been developed. The article presents a solution to hydrocyclone installations for the treatment of oilfield wastewater based on the use of swirling flows. Due to the centrifugal forces in the hydrocyclone and the turbulent water movement, the armor shells of oil droplets are destroyed, enlarged, and the monodispersity increases. The forces acting in the hydrocyclone are considered, and the efficiency of centrifugal forces in separating solid particles is estimated. The main parameters and requirements for the quality of oilfield wastewater are given, recommended for calculation in developing new and improving existing oilfield wastewater treatment plants for oil reservoir flooding, which allows increasing oil recovery by 1,5–2 times. Improving the systems of field preparation of products includes developing new effective technical means, including hydrocyclones and the improvement of traditionally used equipment. Hydrocyclone can be used as the main element in the wastewater treatment system. The regime is observed, in which there is no over-dispersion of the remaining oil in the water (water in oil). Thus, the device implements a mechanism for separating light (oil, gas) and heavier fractions (sediment, water, oil).

Genetic algorithms are a robust method for a solution of wide variety optimization problems. It explores a big space of design variables in order to find the best solution. From the point of view of a user, the algorithm requires the encoding of design variables into the form of strings and the procedure of optimization uses them for optimization. Here, for the structural engineer, it is crucial to find the form of objective function including the constraints of the task and also to avoid critical states during the solution of structural responses. This paper presents the use of genetic algorithm for solving truss structures. The use of genetic algorithm approach is shown on three cases of truss structures.

In article considers hydrodynamic and heat mass transfer performances of simultaneous implementation of the heat mass transfer processes on tubular gratings with the stabilizer and a heat exchanger. The optimal service conditions for the absorber are determined. Analyzing the obtained data, we can conclude that high efficiency of using foam devices with the stabilization of the built-in heat exchangers at the stage of absorption of sulfur trioxide in the sulfuric acid production is shown. Efficient heat dissipation with the help of internal refrigerators provides the de-sired temperature mode of absorption, which allows eliminating all the bulky heat exchange economy in existing systems. The high performance activity of an absorber of the investigated construction is exhibited during the implementation of simultaneous processes. The industrial implementation of the stabilization method of the gas-liquid layer greatly extends the scope of foaming devices and opens up new possibilities for the intensification of the technological processes creating the low-waste technologies in chemical technology and other industries.

This paper proposes the application of computer simulation methods in order to analyse the availability of resources, buffers and the impact of the allocation of workers on the throughput andwork-in-progressof a manufacturing system. The simulation model of the production system is based on an existing example of a manufacturing company in the automotive industry. The manufacturing system includes both machining and assembly operations. Simulation experiments were conductedvis-à-visthe availability of the different manufacturing resources, the various allocations of buffer capacities and the number of employees. The production system consists of three manufacturing cells –each cell including two CNC machines– and two assembly stations. The parts produced by the manufacturing cells are stored in buffers and transferred to the assembly stations. Workers are allocated to the manufacturing cells and assembly stations, but the number of workers may be less than number of workplaces and are thus termed ‘multi-workstations’. Using computer simulation methods, the impact of the availability of resources, the number of employees and of the allocation of buffer capacity on the throughput andwork-in-progressof the manufacturing system is analysed. The results of the research are used to improve the effectiveness of manufacturing systems using a decision support system and the proper control of resources. Literature analysis shows that the study of the impact of buffer capacities, availability of resources and the number of employees on assembly manufacturing system performance have not been carried out so far.

This study investigates the selected properties of the thin Ti coating applied by activated evaporation EB PVD technique. This technique was used for the deposition of Ti thin coating onto inner surface of OKhN3 MFA steel tubes. Deposition process was carried out at temperature 200°C. Conventional type of coatings - monolayer Ti - was analyzed by standard techniques for surface status and quality assessment - coating thickness, chemical composition by EDX analysis, adhesion, hardness, roughness, and growth direction of columns at room temperature. Ti monolayer achieved roughness Ra equal from 0.42 μm to 0.47 μm. The resulting hardness was from 2 GPa to 8.5 GPa depending on the sample location inside the vacuum chamber. Placing of the coated surface also affected the direction of grain growth of Ti coating columns. The angles α of grain growth were found to be from 40° to 60°. Angle α increased two to three times more than the incidence angle β (from 12° to 28°) of evaporated Ti particles. Values of the adhesion measured along the Ti growth direction were mostly higher (up to 10%) or the same as those measured perpendicular to it.

This paper proposes the application of computer simulation methods to support decision making regarding intermediate buffer allocations in a series-parallel production line. The simulation model of the production system is based on a real example of a manufacturing company working in the automotive industry. Simulation experiments were conducted for different allocations of buffer capacities and different numbers of employees. The production system consists of three technological operations with intermediate buffers between each operation. The technological operations are carried out using machines and every machine can be operated by one worker. Multi-work in the production system is available (one operator operates several machines). On the basis of the simulation experiments, the relationship between system throughput, buffer allocation and the number of employees is analyzed. Increasing the buffer capacity results in an increase in the average product lifespan. Therefore, in the article a new index is proposed that includes the throughput of the manufacturing system and product life span. Simulation experiments were performed for different configurations of technological operations.
