Epoxy resins were reinforced with different ZnO nanofillers (commercial ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), recycled ZnO and functionalized ZnO NPs) in order to obtain ZnO–epoxy composites with suitable mechanical properties, high adhesion strength, and good resistance to corrosion. The final properties of ZnO–epoxy composites depend on several factors, such as the type and contents of nanofillers, the epoxy resin type, curing agent, and preparation methods. This paper aims to review the preparation methods, mechanical and anti-corrosion performance, and applications of ZnO–epoxy composites. The epoxy–ZnO composites are demonstrated to be valuable materials for a wide range of applications, including the development of anti-corrosion and UV-protective coatings, for adhesives and the chemical industry, or for use in building materials or electronics.

Considering thermal environment aspects have a major impact not only on occupational health and safety (OH&S) performance but also on the productivity and satisfaction of the workers, the aim of the case study was to assess the thermal comfort of a group of 33 workers in an automotive industry company, starting with collecting data about the thermal environment from different workplaces, continuing with the analytical determination and interpretation of thermal comfort using the calculation of the Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) and Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied (PPD) indices, according to provisions of the standard ISO 7730:2005, and comparing the results with the subjective perception of the workers revealed by applying individual questionnaires. The results of the study represent an important input element for establishing the preventive and protective measures for the analysed workplaces in correlation with the measures addressing other specific risks and, also, could serve as a model for extending and applying to other similar workplaces in future studies. Moreover, the mathematical model and the software instrument used for this study case could be used in further similar studies on larger groups of workers and in any industrial domain.

Background: Endodontic shaping causes stress and strain in the root canal dentin. Dentin microcracks have the potential to be later followed by root fractures occurring under the occlusal load. The aim of our research was to theoretically determine the values of such dentinal states of stress and strain during the endodontic shaping of curved root canals using finite element analysis (FEA). Methods: To highlight the stress concentrations in dentin, two geometric models were created considering the volume of the curved dental root and the contact between the endodontic file and the root canal walls. The application of forces with different values was simulated both on a uniform curved root canal and on a root canal with an apical third curvature of 25° as they would be applied during the preparation of a root canal. Results: In the case of the first model, which was acted upon with a force of 5 N, the deformations of the root canal appeared along the entire working length, reaching the highest values in the apical third of the root, although there were no geometric changes in the shape of the root canal. Regarding the second root model, with an apical third curvature of 25°, although the applied force was 2 N, the deformations were accompanied by geometric changes in the shape of the root, especially in the upper part of the apical third. At a higher force of 7 N exerted on the endodontic file, the geometric shape changed, and the deformation reached extreme critical values. The resulting tensile stresses appearing in the experimental structure varied similarly to the deformations. Conclusions: Significant stress and strain can develop, especially in the apical third of curved root canals during their shaping, and the risk of cracks is higher for endodontically treated teeth presenting severe curvatures in the apical third of the root.

Underground mining production is an extremely important process for the economy and carried out in very difficult and complex environmental conditions. The disturbance of the balance of this environment makes it also a very dangerous process. Due to the importance of coal, mainly as an energy raw material, the process of its exploitation is carried out all over the world. The specificity of its production is mainly determined by mining and geological conditions, which determine the method of operation and the selection of machines and devices for this process. One of the most dangerous natural hazards associated with this process are ventilation hazards, including methane hazard. The reason for this threat is methane, an odorless and colorless gas, which becomes a flammable and explosive gas under certain criteria. These features make this gas a huge threat to mining operations. Its huge amounts, contained in coal seams, are released into the mine atmosphere during the exploitation process, causing a very high threat to work safety. Events related to the occurrence of methane are most often the cause of mining disasters, in which people die and the technical and mining infrastructure is destroyed. The reason for the growing methane hazard is the increasingly difficult mining conditions, and mainly the increasing depth of mining, and thus also the increase in methane-bearing capacity of the seams. Taking into account the huge impact of methane hazard on the mining process, the article discusses its impact on the safety and efficiency of this process. The results of the literature review with regard to this risk are presented and the accident statistics are presented. On the basis of actual data, an analysis of interruptions in the exploitation process related to exceeding the permissible methane concentrations was carried out in one of the mines. The problem of limiting the production process due to these exceedances is an important factor reducing the efficiency of this process. The obtained results clearly indicate that the losses resulting from these breaks deteriorate the profitability of the entire process and affect the economic efficiency of the industry. In order to effectively counteract the dangerous phenomena related to the methane hazard and to improve the efficiency of the mining production process, solutions were proposed to improve this state and the directions for further research were proposed.

The paper presents the general scheme of the ultrasonic filter proposed and the finite element modeling of this system. The method can be used in air purification system from the highly polluting processing technology of an industrial shop (paint shops, foundries, welding constructions, forging, etc.). The advantages of using ultrasounds in the pollutant air filtration and purification process and an ultrasonic filter designed are presented. Paper insists in the design of the main part of the ultrasonic system represented by ultrasonic transducer. In this case, the transducer that is used consist in two asymmetrical passive elements (reflector and radiant element). For the ultrasonic system design there are presented the principal theoretical elements and in the final the finite element analyze of the whole ultrasonic system. The FEA provides the optimal frequency used in system during its operation time. The considered theoretical elements: the mechanical resonance condition; the electromechanical resonance condition; the acoustic power emitted by the resonance; acoustic power emitted at low frequencies; the acoustic power frequency characteristic; the electrical impedance of the transducer; electro-acoustical, acoustical-mechanic and electromechanical efficiency; the sensitivity of the low frequency transducer; the transducer sensitivity frequency characteristic and the resonance sensitivity of the transducer.

Paper presents necessity of metal plating in the case of highly corosion process acting on metal pieces. By authors researches, the welding plating method has some disadvantages, possible to be eliminated by using the ultrasonic field. The work presents a series of experimental results obtained in the case of metal plating using welding method [10] with or without ultrasonic field. There were analised the main coupled material resulted functional properties and the final microstructure in the distinctive zone: base material, thermal influenced zone, and addition material.
