Thermogravimetric experiments were carried out for a few types of wood with determination of the kinetic parameters characterizing the pyrolysis process. In the present work the various kinetic models used for this purpose are suggested. Analyzing software tool for calculation of thermal conversion products and reactor balance is developed. The optimal temperature range for biomass pyrolysis is identified using this tool. The influence of steam and air flow rates on the gasification products is represented. The impact of operating parameters on the synthesis gas composition was evaluated. Comparison of the computational model and the results obtained during experimental studies on the existing gasifier were carried out. The combined cycle power plant involving the biomass gasification process has been numerically simulated in the Aspen Plus. Calculations of the optimal operating parameters of different thermal process components and of the entire combined cycle power plant system were performed.

This paper investigates fibrous thermal insulation materials of various densities to assess the change in their thermophysical properties at high temperatures. The thermal conductivity of fibrous thermal insulation materials is discussed as a function of the temperature in the range from 50 °C to 500 °C. It is shown that the thermal insulating properties depend not only on the physical properties of the material (e.g., density or diameter of fibres), but also on the geometric parameters of the structure and on the orientation of the fibres. The influence of high temperatures on the mass change of fibrous materials associated with the burnout of synthetic binders is shown. These features should be taken into account during the design of thermal insulation operating at high temperatures to provide the optimal selection of the material and to guarantee the stability of their thermal properties.

The article presents the development strategy of the energy supply system for National Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute” (MPEI) buildings based on green building. The designing mathematical model of one of MPEI academic buildings connected with the Scientific and technical library of the University has been created in Passive House Planning Package and designPH software. The parameters of the building energy supply system with the lowest energy consumption are presented.

The creation of efficient and compact heat exchangers is one of the priority tasks arising during the design of heat and gas supply to industrial and residential buildings. As a rule, finned surfaces and turbulization of heat carrier flows are used to increase the efficiency of heat exchange in heat exchangers. The present paper proposes to use novel materials, namely porous material, in the design of highly efficient heat exchangers. The investigation was carried out experimentally and theoretically. To study the possibility of creating such heat exchangers, a multi-purpose test bench is created. The aim of the study was to assess the intensity of heat transfer in heat exchangers using porous metal. Laboratory tests are carried out as part of the experimental study. In the theoretical study, the classical equation for the change in the heat flux density when the coolant passes through the porous insert was used. As a result, a mathematical model was obtained in the form of a second-order differential equation. Boundary conditions were set and a particular solution was obtained. The results of theoretical calculations were compared with experimental data. The performed study experimentally confirmed the efficiency of using porous metal inserts in the design of shell-and-tube heat exchangers. The compiled mathematical model allows one to perform engineering calculations of the considered heat exchangers with porous inserts.

This article is dedicated to search of right balance for heat and power supply of distributed villages in different conditions in Russia. Russia has a huge territory that is not connected to power grids, many villages aren’t connected to natural gas network and don’t have district heating systems. Approach consists of several steps. On the first step we choose isolated areas and villages that have no chances to get connection to natural gas grid. Even if they are connected to power grids, they still have a room for autonomic solutions in producing heat/hot water. In many cases quality of power is not very good. Then on the second step we compare different combinations of traditional (LNG/CNG/LPG/diesel) and renewable (PV panels, solar collectors, wind turbines + heat/power storage units) power sources in order to find the best way of power/heat supply for the village. In the article the approach is shown on two different examples – Dagestan (south of Russia) and Yakutia (north of Russia). Article also covers some ways and proposals of renewable energy supporting considering current situation in this industry.
