This paper explores the role of extended relationship management (xRM) in the higher education ecosystem. With the ultimate goal of the institution’s future sustainable development, the university has developed and implemented a customized model of integrated e-services to foster a relationship with its leading stakeholder group—students. Furthermore, our study introduces a comprehensive model of xRM e-services. The main objective of this paper was to assess students’ behavioral intentions, acceptance, and long-term usage of the xRM e-services. A theoretical model was developed based on the UTAUT2 framework. The evaluation of the acceptance and usage of the xRM e-services was assessed by using a partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) methodology. The results indicate that factors such as habit and effort expectancy have a significant relationship with students’ behavioral intentions, while there is a strong positive influence of their intentions on actual use of the xRM e-services. The emergence of habit as the strongest predictor of behavioral intention indicates that the digitization of traditional touch-points has become an important part of students’ everyday lives at university.

The subject of this paper is the development of a loyalty program based on blockchain, tailored for the application in smart cities. The goal is to propose a collaborative loyalty scheme that would enable consumers to collect loyalty points across a smart city, through traditional buying of products and services from partners, but also through participating in different collaborative activities, such as crowdsourcing, crowdsensing or crowdvoting. Additionally, the points can be spent across the smart city with any of the partners. In the paper, we give details on the business model for the proposed loyalty scheme and present a prototype of the implementation on the Hyperledger Fabric platform. We discuss the advantages of the proposed loyalty program and give implications for different stakeholders.

Pregnancy care is a topic of interest for both academia and practitioners. Novel pervasive technologies and applications, such as mobile technologies, wearables and IoT, open a wide corpus of possibilities for fostering pregnancy care management, and reducing risks and problems, improving communication among stakeholders and society development. This article introduces a model of a pregnancy care IT ecosystem based on the integration of various services in a semantically enriched e-health ecosystem. As proof of concept, both the web and mobile applications that aim to help pregnant women and gynaecologists were designed and employed in a real environment. An evaluation of the developed ecosystem was performed on a sample of 500 pregnant women and 100 doctors. After pilot usage, a survey was used to collect the data from participants, and assess the acceptance of the developed system. Results show that quality, usability and usefulness are on a high level, and that both pregnant women and doctors are ready for more extensive use of the system. In addition, research findings imply that employing pervasive technologies could bring significant benefits to all the parties in pregnancy care systems.

The paper studies the consumer readiness for participation in new business models for demand response in electricity markets. The main premise is that consumers’ attitudes, if considered during the development, ensure that the business model meets the interests of the consumers, while still maintaining a focus on its original purpose. The goal of the paper is twofold: to develop a new business model suitable for a developing electricity market, that enables customer participation in the demand response services, and to analyze customer readiness to participate in the developed model. The proposed business model relies on internet of things, as a technology that provides customers with an easy way to participate in demand response services. The customers’ attitudes towards various incentives, such as green energy, environmental protection, profit and interest in new technologies, as well as trust in the market operator were taken into consideration. The results indicate that different service packages can be created for different types of customers depending on individual characteristics. Additionally, results show that consumers show interest in environmental conservation, while they prefer state institutions as service operators. Using the gathered results, new insights can be gained into demand response user acceptance, and further business strategies formulated.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the possibilities of implementing the customer relationship management (CRM) concept and smart technologies in public libraries in developing countries. The goal was to explore the level of librarians’ awareness about CRM concept and their willingness to accept the CRM concept in libraries. Also, patrons’ satisfaction with the quality of services and relationships in public libraries is explored. Design/methodology/approach The authors obtained data for this research through two online surveys. The first survey measures librarians’ level of awareness about CRM concept and their perception about CRM and smart technologies concept in public libraries in three developing countries: Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The second survey measures patrons’ satisfaction with services and relationship in public libraries in these three countries. Findings The research results revealed that most surveyed librarians are familiar with the CRM concept. However, libraries in these three developing countries barely use CRM or smart technologies to improve the relationship with stakeholders. Also, most patrons are satisfied with relationships and services. The analysis of data indicates no significant difference in the satisfaction level among patrons between these three developing countries. Research limitations/implications Not all libraries participated in this research. Therefore, the sample is not distributed evenly across different types of libraries or user groups. Future research should include different types of libraries. Practical implications The results can be used by public libraries in developing countries to improve the relationship with stakeholders harnessing CRM concept and smart technologies. Social implications The use of CRM in combination with the smart technologies can help leverage the quality of the relationship between public libraries and stakeholders which in turn would secure their support and loyalty in the future. Originality/value The integration of CRM concept as a component of library business automation process is an idea that has not been discussed widely in the library community and could initiate a positive trend in public libraries in developing countries.

Nikola Tesla has been known as a Serbian scientist and inventor who has made a great impact by designing modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply systems. However, it is less known that his patents in the field of communications represent a basis of present-day ICT systems. In this paper, we present Tesla's most important patents and results regarding mobile and wireless communications and Internet services: patents concerning transmission lines, radio technologies, logic gates and digital modulations. We analyze the patents related to frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS), orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM), and wireless cryptography in details. In addition, we present Tesla's vision of communication services that have become possible to implement almost a hundred years later.

The fluorescence lifetime for magnetic dipole 5D0→7F1 transition in yttrium aluminum garnet doped with Eu3+ (YAG:Eu3+) crystal was studied under the pressure of up to 10.4 GPa at room temperature. The fluorescence lifetime τ (5D0→7F1 transition) slowly decreased with pressure. The pressure effect on τ (5D0→7F1 transition) was explained with a model which considered pressure effect on line position: inter-ionic distance, ion volume, molecular volume, ion polarizability, molecular polarizability, sample refractive index, and surrounding hydrostatic medium refractive index. The fluorescence lifetime τ calculated by the presented model was in close correspondence with the experimental values.

This paper discusses analytical aspects of smart grids and offers insights into the development of a business intelligence solution for the electricity market. The goal is to design a system that provides an emerging electricity market with the necessary data flows and information for forecasting, data analysis and decision making, leading to better business results and more control over the market. By employing a methodology specifically suited to the electricity market domain, we designed a business intelligence solution for the Serbian electricity market operator “Elektromreža Srbije”. The research results show that the proposed approach leads to more effective market management in data-rich smart grid environments, while still being dynamic enough to adapt to frequent rule changes in the still developing grids and their markets.

The effect of high hydrostatic pressure (up to 10.3 GPa) at room temperature on fluorescence lifetime τ for R line (2E→4A2 transition) in ruby Al2O3:V2+ was studied. The performed studies show the linear increase of τ with increasing pressure. At 10.3 GPa, τ is about 1.36 times higher than at ambient pressure. The obtained trend was explained by a model which considered the effect of pressure on τ through an induced change of line position, inter-ionic distance, compressibility, and molecular polarizability. A good agreement between the calculated and experimental values for τ was obtained.

Software-defined networking (SDN) is an emerging technology that allows efficient and flexible management of networking equipment through standard interfaces. In order to encourage the seamless adoption of this technology, a new approach for the education of network engineers should be established, shifting the focus from conventional vendor specific technologies toward the concepts of standardized network management. In this paper, we propose an approach for designing an SDN course where students are encouraged to learn how to design and manage software-defined networks in general, rather than focusing on the specifics of one vendor in particular. In addition, deeper student involvement is achieved through the use of globally available Open APIs and open source software which are the backbone of the course. The approach was evaluated at the graduate studies at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Belgrade. The results indicate that the proposed approach can have a positive impact on the learning process, and in time hopefully serve as a stepping stone for the education of the new generation of network engineers.

Our research paper is focused on improvements to the establishment of effective business continuity management in organizations that use modern e-business technologies: the Internet, mobile computing, electronic services, virtual infrastructure, etc. The paper introduces a new concept, that of e-business continuity management (e-BCM), within the existing scientific field of business continuity management (BCM), and defines a comprehensive model for adaptive e-BCM adjustable to changes in the business environment of the organization. The proposed model is the result of our theoretical and practical work in the last four years, including implementation of the model in three financial organizations of various sizes. The model defines a general framework for establishment and continuous improvement of e-BCM and includes methods for defining the key components of a business continuity management system: business impact analysis, business continuity risk assessment, and business continuity plan. The results may have broad practical application in any organization that uses modern e-business technologies.

Adaptivity is an essential quality for any mobile learning process. When learning on the move, in short time intervals, the learning process is often limited, and content needs to be adapted in order to keep the interactions with the user simple, effective, and motivating. This paper presents a model for mobile adaptive language learning, with the main goal of improving the mobile language learning process using adaptive techniques. The presented model is designed in such a way to utilize unique opportunities for delivery of learning content in authentic learning situations. In order to allow adaptivity based on several parameters, an ontological framework is presented along with a format of lightweight learning objects for content delivery. A cloud and web-service based system for adaptation is envisioned on top of the ontological framework and presented, with some implementation suggestions and possibilities discussed.

Smart grid technologies are bringing innovations in electrical power industries, affecting all parts of the electricity supply chain, and leading to changes in market structure, business models and services. In this paper we introduce a model of business intelligence for a smart grid supply chain. The model is developed in order to provide electricity markets with the necessary data flows and information important for the decision making process. The proposed model offers a way to efficiently leverage the new metering architecture and the new capabilities of the grid to reap immediate business value from the huge amounts of disparate data in emerging smart grids. The model was evaluated for the Serbian electricity market in the electric power transmission company Public Enterprise “Elektromreža Srbije”. The results show that business intelligence solutions can contribute to a more effective management of smart grids, in order to ensure that companies achieve sustainability in the increasingly competitive electricity markets, while still providing the high quality services to end users.
