E. Bucio holds a PhD from the UNAM Faculty of Chemistry. Currently, he is a researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences, UNAM, and he is a distinguished member of the National System of Researchers, Level III. His expertise lies in radiation chemistry, fluorinated polymers, and the synthesis of smart polymers with anti-infective properties for the development of medical devices. With a track record of more than 200 articles in his field with several patents as well as an editor of several journals, Emilio Bucio has received prestigious awards throughout his career, including the "Gustavo Baz Prada Medal” (UNAM, 1993), the "Alfonso Caso Medal" (Ph.D. in 1999), and the LAS/ANS award for the best publication of the year in 2010 from the Latin American Section of the Nuclear American Society. Moreover, he serves as an advisor to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
