The purpose of this research is to examine the underlying mechanisms inside the so-called black box that relate high performance work systems (HPWS) with employees’ well-being and job performance in hospitality. We surveyed a sample of 494 hotel workers to test a research model that related the following variables: HPWS, organizational commitment, motivation, job satisfaction, quality of life (QoL), and individual job performance. Structural equation modelling, namely through PLS-SEM, was conducted. We confirmed that HPWS directly influence employees’ motivation, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and QoL. Additionally, workers’ motivation and organizational commitment positively influence job satisfaction, which, in turn, enhances workers’ QoL. Moreover, job satisfaction and quality of life significantly predicted individual job performance. This study contributes to unlocking the so-called black box relating HPWS with job outcomes as well as to the growing body of research that relates employees’ well-being with performance. From a managerial point of view, hospitality firms should prioritize investment in HPWS, as its design and implementation affects employees’ attitudes and behaviors. Future lines of research should consider bundles of practices instead of the whole HPWS effects on employees’ attitudes and behaviors.

The present study examines the effects of diversity management on hospitality employees’ organizational commitment and their job satisfaction taking into account individual differences. A representative sample of hotel workers were surveyed in the Canary Island, one of the main tourist destinations in the world, which receives over fifteen million tourists a year. Using moderated mediation analyses, the study confirms our hypothesis that employees’ perceptions of diversity management have a positive and significant direct effect on job satisfaction. In addition, an indirect effect through employees’ organizational commitment was found. Results support the moderating role of age, but not of ethnic origin or gender on the proposed mediation. From a managerial perspective, hoteliers should be encouraged to consider diversity management when they plan their human resource policies due to its positive effects on employees’ job satisfaction and organizational commitment.

The aim of this research was to design a seven-session case method intervention to be used as part of the organizational behavior course to achieve a high level of students' satisfaction. Ninety-two students took part in the case method intervention. A final questionnaire showed that participants were very satisfied with the case study method and that this teaching method should be applied in other courses of the bachelor of tourism in order to increase tourism students’ satisfaction with their studies. Implications for theory and practice are discussed and directions for future research pointed out.
