The sustainability of services in undertakings which operate in railway passenger transport is closely connected with efforts to provide high-quality and time-acceptable services to the customer, to achieve lean processes, to standardise work processes, to eliminate wastage and to avoid those activities which do not add any value. Considering its ecological nature and big volume of passenger transport, railway passenger transport represents an irreplaceable sustainable system for the future. These facts and the entry of new railway carriers into this system highlight the importance of managing risks in a progressive way. This article focuses on the options of risk management when versatile and flexible tools, such as Lean tools, are set correctly. The aim of this article is to introduce a proposal for the application and a specific application of Lean philosophy in risk management which impacts train delays in railway passenger transport. From the point of view of quantitative data analysis, multiple mathematical-statistical tests have been used to assess data (e.g., Anderson–Darling test, Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, Jarque–Bera test, two-tailed test, Grubbs’s test and Thompson Tau test). Also, descriptive statistics and ANOVA test (Analysis of Variance) have been applied in the process of evaluating the monitored attributes. In order to assess the data dependency, Chi-Square Test and a correlation analysis have been applied. The research outcomes focus on highlighting the need for a systematic approach for train delays and to avoid delays through risk management. The case study applies selected Lean methods to monitor train delays in selected stations within the main railway corridor of the Slovak Republic for the period from 2015 to 2018. In 2019, the results were processed and created a basis for proposing a unique software tool like an aid for risk management in the case of train delays using Lean philosophy. The flexible software includes the participation of employees, and at the same time, it respects the needs of customers. The research results provide grounds for further study of risks in a challenging environment of railway undertakings, with different types of trains, railway stations as well as entire railway networks. The processed results of the article represent valuable material for railway undertakings not only in Slovakia but also for railway organisations in V4 countries.

Contemporary trends highlight the need for education in each enterprise. The current business environment is characterized by many changes such as increased customer expectations and high levels of competitiveness in the environment. World trends, shows, that managers and owners of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) perceived the need to take care of risk management in their enterprise. This issue has been analyzed and discussed for a long time. It is necessary to concentrate on this field mainly in the Slovak Republic. SMEs in Slovakia are very sensitive to changes in the environment. The aim of this paper is to investigate regional differences in the attitude of Slovak SMEs towards risk management, with special emphasis on the attitude towards significance of the education in the field of risk management based on empirical research, which was provided by authors in 2017. This paper will evaluate: the level of dependence between the selected Slovak regions and the created space for discussion about risks in SMEs, the level of dependence between selected Slovak regions and the created space for employee education in risk management in SMEs, and the level of dependence between selected Slovak regions and the required education possibilities in the field of risk management. It will use: association, the Pearson’s coefficient and the Tschuprov coefficient for evaluating the results. Overall results of the empirical research point towards the significance and importance of using risk management in SMEs. The results, shows, that there is a very large association between investigating dependence. Based on the results, it is necessary to improve the level of education in the field of risk management, which will be based on current entrepreneurial requirements.

Current trends show that education in the field of project risk management is a very actual topic. Long - term projects, which was realized in 2018, was mainly focused on R&D across the world. Short - term projects, was focused on innovation and improve manufacturing processes. Many projects failed because project managers did not manage project risks. Project managers have less knowledge and skills on how to effectively manage project risks, especially risks in the planning phase of projects. The main aim of this article is to analyze the current state of usage project risk assessment across the world, based on own empirical research, which was provided, by authors in 2018 and 2019 (mainly level of usage project risk management methods, experience and level of education). The research focused on analyzing the current state of project risk assessment among continents. The authors focused on the average level of use qualitative and quantitative project risk analysis by project managers, level of project risk management experience by project managers and complexity of learning in using of qualitative and quantitative project risk management methods and tools. Some recommendation were established to educate project managers in the field of project risk management.

Enterprises want to focus on successfully managed projects. Projects must be focused on fulfilling project expectations and setting project objectives. It is necessary to ensure the early identification of project risks. If managers understand and know project risks, they can mitigate them. They can use mitigation to prevent projects from failing, or financial loses in the company. The main aim of this paper is the identification of project risks of a new product in a particular company in the Slovak Republic using the method of brainstorming. Risks can positively but mainly negatively affect the implementation of the proposed project. The proposed project was created based on the methods of analysis, forecasting, comparison, synthesis and provided information from a specific enterprise. The identified risks are grouped into the specified project implementation categories, in order to better identify the identified risks as well as to implement other project risk management steps. The results of the study show that early identification of project risks should be a responsibility for project team members, for top managers and the corporate culture of each enterprise.

Objective: The essence of this article is to identify statistically the most serious entrepreneurial risks defined by SME owners and managers in Slovakia based on the empirical research conducted in 2017 and to identify the most serious market risks and their sources (causes) depending on the company size and the duration of doing business.Research Design & Methods: Using empirical research methods and statistical methods, the authors investigate the dependence between the risks perceived by managers and owners of SMEs and the duration of business activity and the size of an enterprise.Findings: Based on the results, we can say that market risks that negatively affect the SME entrepreneurial environment are considered to be the most serious risks in all countries. The overall research results in individual countries underline the importance of dealing with the assessment of entrepreneurial risks and their sources in SMEs.Implications & Recommendations: The owners or managers of SMEs should be able to apply the risk management process in enterprises using appropriate methods and tools to identify changes timely in case of adverse development of business environment. The application of enterprise risk management leads to an improvement in business performance and also cost saving.Contribution & Value Added: The task of this article is to make the need of implementing the risk management in SMEs through a relevant study more transparent, to compare and evaluate the results of the area being solved in individual countries.
