Some relevant transport infrastructures are expected to be built in Extremadura, a Spanish region. Future investments could transform the regional transportation system and therefore could act as an important lever for economic and social change. The text describes the current situation and also the planned infrastructures, and an ex ante study is developed. The research has set the deficiencies of Extremadura in terms of transportation network, but current planning proves that the rail and airport infrastructures in Extremadura are set to involve a significant change of model. Moreover, the importance of taking into consideration the transport planning documents of neighboring countries in the transport analysis of bordering regions and the negative consequence of designing national and regional transport plans without considering the neighboring plans have been described.

The purpose of the research is the evaluation of the impact of a new bike lane network built in Cáceres (Spain) in October 2019, a city with a weak tradition in the use of bicycles. Prior to the new project, the percentage of displacement by bicycle was under 0.2% (by contrast, private cars was 56%). The project has introduced a real network in 33 new streets and avenues, and 250 new parking places for bicycles. The impact has been evaluated by two online surveys, one conducted in November–December 2019 just after the inauguration, and the other conducted in January–February 2020. For that, the impact evolution after the first 3 months has also been evaluated. The result allows to analyze the citizens' response to the new infrastructure; the main conclusion is that the effect of the built infrastructure is clearly positive in terms of new users, new potential users, and bike general image for the citizens. Moreover, this positive effect has grown after the first 3 months.

The paper explores the current condition of the vestiges of the railroad Peñarroya-Fuente del Arco, an historical metric gauge line. The infrastructure, in service between 1895 and the 1970s, was constructed by the Sociedad Minero Metalúrgica de Peñarroya. The research combines the compilation of previous information with some other new historical data, based on fieldwork and archival research, and an analysis of the current status of the buildings and the layout in the geographical context is done. The main conclusion is the characterization of the footprints of the rail line in the territory, which can be defined as an example of an historical landscape modified by the civil engineering.

The purpose of this paper is to determine the existence of a possible expected bridge frequency (number of bridges per unit of measurement) in an urban context. To achieve this, a method was developed to calculate the real frequency of crossing points already built over water bodies in inner cities. The method was based on collecting different measurable data of different cities using images from Google Earth. Furthermore, this method was applied to evaluate bridges built in several European cities that have a river. The results show that there is a clear link between the frequency of urban bridges and the width of the river, expressed by a power law function which defines bridge frequency as an inverse function of river width. Also, there is no direct link between the size of the city and the number of crossing points built in the city. Additionally, two new urban development projects on rivers were evaluated by using the defined power law function. Thus, it was concluded that future urban development close to rivers could use this function to decide the number of new crossing points. Furthermore, the ideal distance between consecutive urban bridges has been determined.
