Dr Eleni Mavrogonatou received her BSc and PhD in Biology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She is now a researcher at the Laboratory of Cell Proliferation and Ageing, Institute of Biosciences and Applications, National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”. Her research interests include the study of cellular stress responses and of the mechanisms regulating cell cycle progression, proliferation, DNA damage repair pathways, UVB-induced cytotoxicity, inflammation, wound healing and carcinogenesis, as well as the induction of cellular senescence and the implication of senescent cells in the manifestation of age-related diseases. In addition, she has significant experience in the assessment of natural and synthetic bioactive compounds regarding their cytotoxic, cytostatic, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, anti-cancer and photo-protective properties.
