Dr. Eva Poveda is a researcher at the Servizo Galego de Saúde (SERGAS), coordinates the Consolidated Research Group Virology and Pathogenesis of the IIS Galicia Sur and is the current Scientific Director of this Institute. She has a degree in Biological Sciences from USC (1998), a Master's degree in Molecular Biology from the CBMSO in Madrid, a Master's degree in AIDS from UCM (2003) and a PhD in Medical Microbiology from UCM (2004). She is an expert in the study of HIV/AIDS infection and other co-infections since 2001, and since 2020 has extended her scope of study to SARS-CoV-2/COVID19 infection. She has published 178 articles in international scientific journals and leads national and international projects, mainly in Europe, USA and West Africa. Her lines of research are focused on epidemiological, clinical, virological and pathogenic aspects of these infections.
Dr. Poveda is a member of the Executive Committee of the Spanish HIV/AIDS Research Network Cohort (CoRIS) and is the scientific coordinator and principal investigator of the COVID19 Cohort of the IISGS. In addition, she is also a member of expert panels for the elaboration of national Clinical Guidelines and National Consensus Documents for the treatment and follow-up of people with HIV infection.
Her contributions to Health Sciences have been recognized with the L'Oréal-UNESCO Awards For Women in Science and three editions of the Research Awards on HIV and other infections of the Galician Ministry of Health.
