The purpose of this paper was to make a study as regards the typology of sheep farms which practicing the conventional breeding system. To characterize the typology of conventional sheep farms a study of the production system was conducted in 2014 in 10 sheep farms, located in the counties Cluj, Caras-Severin, Covasna, Buzau, Prahova and Teleorman. Evaluation of the production system from each farm was based on the completion of a specific questionnaire to this type of evaluation. The results showed that conventional sheep farms taken in study are diverse in terms of number of animals held and land used, the average size of sheep farm being by 313.6 heads (with limits between 105 and 720 heads), and the average area of land used per farm is 90.02 ha (with limits between 4.32 and 201.5 ha). The maintenance system of animals from these farms is extensive or semi-intensive, mainly based on the maintenance of sheep to pasture in warmer seasons and maintenance in shelters in cold season. The direction of sheep breeding in these farms is mixed, respectively for milk and meat. The main problems faced by farmers are related to the lack of market for their products, low prices for sheep products (especially for wool), delay of subsidies, lack of agricultural consultancy and workforce.

Background: This study is a part of an ample research concerning the genetic history of Hucul horse breed. The genetic analysis studies are part of animal genetic resources Management because just start of them we elaborate the strategies for inbreeding management. The itself genetic relationship of a population is the average genetic relationship of all individuals between them, existing at a time. Therefore, this parameter can be described three components: the genetic relationship between stallions, between mother mares themselves and the genetic relationship between stallions and mares. The last component is most important because of the average population inbreeding increases in successive generations. Methods: The research was carried out during 2012-2020. The material are represented by genealogical information from reproductive nucleus of Hucul breed from Lucina studfarm. The sample extracted from population was represented by seven sire stallions and seventy-three broodmares. The method are based on A matrix coefficients. All analysis were performed in the profile laboratories of Animal Sciences Faculties from Bucharest and Timisoara. Result: Between individual average genetic relationship values of stallions with mares, is found significant differences, highlighted by the global test of homogeneity test (F = 4.891). These differences allow us to assert that, through stallions selection, is made a reproductive discrimination much more intense than in mares case. The average genetic relationship of the population was calculated at 0.1941±0.0053.

Background: A correct supply of protein in the feed diets is required for the efficient conversion of feed and better fattening performances in lambs. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the increase in the protein level of the diets by approx. 20% on fattening performance and meat parameters in Merino lambs. Methods: The study was performed during the year 2020. Forty-two lambs (aged 2.5-3 months) were divided randomly into three groups (14 lambs/group). The groups were fed with diets of compound feed and corn silage differentiated by the level of protein. All diets were isoenergetic. The experiment has lasted for 68 days. Result: The results of this study showed that the protein supplementation of diets by approx. 20% determined an increase in the average daily gain (P less than 0.05) in the first phase of fattening and an improvement in dry matter and protein consumption when the protein supplementation was done only in the first phase of fattening in Merino lambs. Also, the findings of this study indicated that this increase in protein level affected carcass quality and led to higher proportion of muscles and significantly lower fat in the carcass.

Background: The increasing price of raw materials used in lambs fattening diets imposes to look for cheaper feedstuff able to replace the traditional and more expensive ingredients. This study aimed to investigate the effect of including corn dried distillers grains as a feed ingredient in lambs fattening diet. Methods: The study was performed during the year 2021. Thirty lambs (aged 3 months) were divided randomly into two groups (15 lambs/group). The experiment lasted for 110 days divided in two fattening phases. The groups were fed with diets of compound feed, barley hay and corn silage differentiated by the inclusion level of corn dried distiller’s grain in compound feed. Diets were isoprotein and isoenergetic. Result: The results of this study showed that the inclusion of corn dried distillers grain in lamb’s diets improved feed consumption, feed cost, growth performance and carcass parameters. These results proved that it is an efficient and economical feed ingredient that can be used successfully by farmers in lambs fattening diets as a single source of protein and energy in the compound feed up to 30 kg live weight and as a substitute for sunflower meal, over this body weight.
