Prof. Yaonan Zhang holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Physics from the Department of Modern Physics at Lanzhou University, a Master of Science degree in Computer Applications for Field Testing from the Lanzhou Institute of Glaciology and Geocryology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a Doctor of Science degree in Resource and Environmental Data Platform Establishment and Analysis from the Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is currently the director of the Computer Network Department of the Cold and Arid Regions Environment and Engineering Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an adjunct professor of network databases at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the director of the Gansu High-Performance Grid Computing Center. His research interests are cartography and geographic information systems (land surface data assimilation, land surface quantitative remote sensing, remote sensing in cold and arid regions, geographic information systems in cold and arid regions, and geoscience e-science). He is a member of the China High-Performance Computing Professional Committee, the Degree Evaluation Committee of the Resources and Environmental Science Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” Informatization Expert Committee, and the Scientific Database Expert Committee.
