Sergi Gallego graduated in physics in 2001 from the University of Valencia, Spain, and received a PhD (with honors) from the University of Alicante, Spain, in 2005. In 2001, he joined the Optics Department of the University of Alicante as a predoctoral researcher. He became an Assistant Professor in 2004, an Associate Professor in Applied Physics in 2009, and a Professor in 2017, both in the Department of Physics, Systems Engineering and Signal Theory of the University of Alicante. He has visited as a researcher the UCD School of Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, Ireland (2003 and 2005), the Institut für Kristallographie of the Universität zu Köln, Germany (2010) and Universität zu Dresden (2014). His research is focused on holography, holographic recording materials (photopolymers, photorefractive materials, and holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystals –HPDLC-), LCDs for holographic applications, electromagnetic theory, holographic and diffractive optical elements, and holographic data storage. He is a Member of the UA Research Group in Holography and Optical Processing (GHPO) and the University Institute of Physics Applied to Science and Technology (IUFACyT). Since 2016, he has been the head of the Department of Physics, Systems Engineering, and Signal Theory. He is a Member of the Spanish Optical Society (SEDOPTICA), Royal Spanish Society of Physics (RSEF), European Optical Society (EOS), and the international society for optics and photonics (SPIE).
