Digitalization is rushing throughout the world, namely, in industrial and societal infrastructures. Hence, digital transformation becomes a pillar of industrial policy, known in Europe as “Industry 4.0,” in China as “made in China 2025,” in Asia as “Smart Cities,” in Japan as “Society 5.0,” and in North America as “Industrial Internet.” These transformations will change the industrial landscape, toward Quality 4.0 and therefore, our lives. The presented research was conducted on quality management employees in Portugal and it aims to analyze if such employees have the perception of the impact of Industry 4.0 in the quality management profession and the required and needed skills. After analyzing the answered questionnaires, 90 results were considered valid. This is the sample of our study. Simultaneously, the goal of this research is also to review and analyze the main topics in progress related to quality management for the fourth industrial revolution and how quality emerges of this change. The professionals that work on quality management must have creative thinking, be leaders, know how to communicate and work as a team, as well as, to have knowledge and understanding of ICT (Information and Communications Technology), and main pillars of Industry 4.0. These are the main findings. Besides that, they must know how to motivate their work teams, be open to change, know how to use Big Data to make decisions and above all, they must know how to manage conflicts. In addition, quality professionals must promote the design and production of first class products, be the defenders of their customers within the organization, and finally, they must create value for the stakeholders.

End-of-life vehicle (ELV) recycling is a process that spends energy and could be an energy source as well. This part of energy recovering depends on many different factors related to the broad and local aspects of ELV recycling. The ELV recycling process is consuming energy from different energy sources (electrical, fossil), however, this consumption is lower in relation to energy consumption during the production of new vehicle parts from the very beginning. This article attempts to promote an integrated approach in the analysis of the problem of energy recovery through ELV recycling. Authors aim to analyze the ELV recycling process as an energy generator and to present possibilities for its energy recovery. The research analyses are based on the empirical investigation of ELV recycling in the Republic of Serbia, as a developing country, and on defined statistical model presenting the impact of ELV recycling on energy generation, spending, and conservation during one-year intervals. Research results showed that the higher ELV generation rates may led to a higher energy recovery, and environmental and socio-economic sustainability.

Nowadays industries have initiative to reduce a number of production injuries and accidents down to zero. This goal could be achieved only through the proactive identification of accident precursors – such as unsafe conditions (UC) and unsafe acts (UA), whose control could prevent occurrence of accidents. At the same time, smartphones (and mobile applications) are taking dominance over PCs, making mobile devices major interface for human interaction with the web. In this term, application of mobile devices in OSH remains to be more exploited and accepted. Takin into account these trends, the present study aims to propose a novel cloud-based mobile framework for the management of UC/UA reports. Compared to previous studies, we considered the recent trends of mobile, cloud and Safety 4.0 in more details – ending up with the solution that is the combo of JavaScript technologies. Additionally, we provided a publically available use case named the SafE-Tag. Particularly, the SafE-Tag was implemented using the React Native for mobile application, Node.js for web-services and Mongo.db NoSQL cloud database. Beside elaborated computational efficiency, these technologies were found as the most optimal in terms of the cost/complexity to develop and/or adapt in an arbitrary SME. It is concluded that the proposed framework brings benefits for both employees and employers through: (1) intuitive and user friendly identification of key safety performance indicators; (2) digitalization and improvement of safety reporting systems; (3) improvement of safety culture; (4) better understanding and measurement of worker’s contribution to safety; and (5) making the technology affordable.

The natural and cultural heritage of the Lake Skadar/Shkodra basin require the implementation of an efficient management system at the level of the whole lake for the purpose of its continuous protection and the valorization of this unique ecosystem. In this study, we have suggested that there is no difference between the Lake Shkoder Basin Management Strategy (LSBMS) and the Integrated Lake Basin Management (ILBM) which is widely accepted today as a guideline for the achieving of the sustainable management of lake basins. In this chapter, we have reviewed the relevant national and international documents about Lake Skadar such as the Strategic Action Plan (SAP) for Lake Skadar/Shkodra to analyze the current management plans of the lake and basin according to the six governance pillars of ILBM (institutions, policies, participation, technology, information, and finance).

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the vulnerability of projects implemented in enterprises. The paper focuses on the issue of vulnerability assessment in the planning stages of a project, before its realization. Design/methodology/approach In this paper, the realization of the project has been analyzed through the phases of delivery, and the fuzzy approach has been deployed for mathematical modeling of uncertainties. An appropriate expert and management team has assessed the variables of the project’s vulnerability by using linguistic expressions, as this way of assessment is close to the human way of thinking. The model of project’s vulnerability assessment has been verified on real life data by means of an illustrative example. Findings A very significant part of business operations in enterprises all over the world is realized through the practice of project management. In daily business practice, project activities may be exposed to different risk sources. These risks may be studied from different perspectives, but without reevaluation, risk sources increase the vulnerability of projects as well as of the whole enterprise. Originality/value The results of the analysis of the obtained data gives good direction to future research in the scope of vulnerability management in the enterprises oriented to long-term sustainability.

The evaluation and enhancement of business processes in any organization in an uncertain environment presents one of the main requirements of ISO 9000:2008 and has a key effect on competitive advantage and long-term sustainability. The aim of this paper can be defined as the identification and discussion of some of the most important business processes of seaports and the performances of business processes and their key performance indicators (KPIs). The complexity and importance of the treated problem call for analytic methods rather than intuitive decisions. The existing decision variables of the considered problem are described by linguistic expressions which are modelled by triangular fuzzy numbers (TFNs). In this paper, the modified fuzzy extended analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) is proposed. The assessment of the relative importance of each pair of performances and their key performance indicators are stated as a fuzzy group decision-making problem. By using the modified fuzzy extended analytic hierarchy process, the fuzzy rank of business processes of a seaport is obtained. The model is tested through an illustrative example with real-life data, where the obtained data suggest measures which should enhance business strategy and improve key performance indicators. The future improvement is based on benchmark and knowledge sharing.

The difference between the production cost and selling price of the products may be viewed as a criterion that determines an organization’s competitiveness and market success. In such circumstances, it is necessary to impact these criteria in order to maximize this difference. The selling products’ price, in modern market conditions, is a category which may not be significantly affected. So organizations have one option, which is the production cost reduction. This is the motive for business organizations and the imperative of each organization. The key parameters that influence the costs of production and therefore influence the competitiveness of organizations are the parameters of production machines and processes used to create products. To define optimal parameter values for production machines and processes that will reduce production costs and increase competitiveness of production organizations, the authors have developed a new mathematical model. The model is based on application of the ABC classification method to classify production line processes based on their costs and an application of a genetic algorithm to find the optimal values of production machine parameters used in these processes. It has been applied in three different modern production line processes; the costs obtained by the model application have been compared with the real production costs.

In this article, a novel approach for assessment and ranking of maintenance process indicators as well as maintenance cost indicators and maintenance equipment indicators using the fuzzy sets approach and genetic algorithms is presented. Weight values of these indicators are defined using the experience of decision makers from analyzed small and medium enterprises (total number of 197 persons) and calculated using the fuzzy sets approach. In the second step, a model for ranking and optimization of maintenance performance indicators and small and medium enterprises by using genetic algorithm is presented. The presented approach enables multi-objective optimization of selected key performance indicators in the scope of optimization of maintenance performances. The value of optimization was tested on a group of small and medium enterprises which proved that improvement of maintenance performance could be more significant (or performed at the shorter period of time) if the specific key performance indicators were targeted for improvement. The presented solution could provide identification of strengths and weaknesses (comparing key performance indicators), learning from a leading organization (in prioritization of key performance indicator improvement) and improvement of maintenance performance.

The main idea of the paper is to analyse the organisational resilience potential of enterprises that may be modelled as a non-cloud enterprise or modelled from the perspective of being a cloud-based enterprise in a supply chain. In this manner, the model of an organisation is presented as a network of business processes. Organisational resilience factors RFs are assessed on the level of each business process and the overall level of organisational resilience potential is obtained for each organisation. The level of organisational resilience potential in these organisations is assessed when the enterprise is modelled, in the first place, as a non-cloud enterprise and also modelled from the perspective of being a cloud-based enterprise in a supply chain. In this way, the level of organisational resilience potential may be compared and analysed, which is a significant benchmark starting point for this research and practice domain.

Business process improvement is essential for success of enterprises according to the quality philosophy and ISO 9000:2008. On the way to achieving this goal, a very successful approach is the employment of quality improvement projects. This chapter proposes a model for evaluation of projects for business process quality improvement. The performances of the treated type of projects are analyzed in the scope of standard ISO 215000:2015 and the results of good practice. An arranged pair (relative importance, value) is associated to each performance. The relative importance of project performances is assessed on the basis of experts’ judgments from the manufacturing industry and they are introduced by linguistic expressions which are close to human thinking. The values of project performances are determined by measurement or they are based on assessment by a project management team. Modeling of linguistic expressions is performed by fuzzy sets theory. The relative importance of each pair of business processes and project performances is determined on the level of the treated specimen of enterprises. The total score of the project is determined by using fuzzy logic . The model for evaluation of projects for business process quality improvement is verified through a case study example.

In this paper, the production process is decomposed for typical manufacturing small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and the metrics of the defined sub processes, based on the requirements of ISO 9001:2008, are developed. The weight values of production process performance indicators are defined, using the experience of decision makers from the analysed manufacturing SMEs, and calculated using the fuzzy set approach. Finally, the developed solution, based on the genetic algorithm approach, is presented and tested on data from 112 Serbian manufacturing SMEs. The presented solution enables quality assessment of a production process, the ranking of indicators, optimisation and provides the basis for successful improvement of the production process quality. We presented a novel fuzzy multicriteria decision making approach to evaluate and rank organizational resilience factors with respect to user preference orders. Due to vagueness of the decision data, the precise numerical data are inadequate for real-life business situations. Human judgements can be expressed by linguistic expressions which are modeled by fuzzy sets. The complexity of the considered problem calls for analytic methods rather than intuitive decisions. Two fuzzy multi-criteria methods are proposed for solving the treated problem: Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchical Process (FAHP) is applied to determine the relative importance of business processes and the relative importance of organizational resilience factors under each business process, and an extension of the fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FTOPSIS) is applied to rank the organizational resilience factors. With respect to complexity and the type of considered management problem, we introduce a modified fuzzy decision matrix. The proposed algorithm has efficiently been applied in the assessment of organizational resilience factors to small and medium enterprises of the process industry.
