Filipa Catarina Lopes Dias is an Exploration Geologist at SpotMine, Lda., a researcher at the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT), Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto (FCUP), and an Invited Assistant Professor at FCUP. Her work focuses on mineral exploration, with particular emphasis on lithium-bearing pegmatites.
She began her PhD in Geosciences at Central Michigan University (USA), where she spent her first year studying spodumene- and petalite-bearing pegmatites from different lithium-rich districts worldwide. She then returned to Portugal and worked as a research geologist in the Iberian Tin project, focused on historical tin mining areas, before resuming her doctoral studies at the University of Porto. She completed her PhD in 2025, with research focused on the mineral geochemistry of lithium-bearing pegmatites in the Barroso-Alvão pegmatite field, northern Portugal.
She holds a Master's degree in Geology (2016) and a Bachelor's degree in Geology (2014), both from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto. Her academic and professional experience combines fundamental and applied research, with a growing focus on the development and application of innovative approaches to mineral exploration.
