Stocking density presents a key factor affecting livestock and poultry production on a large scale as well as animal welfare. However, the current manual counting method used in the hemp duck breeding industry is inefficient, costly in labor, less accurate, and prone to double counting and omission. In this regard, this paper uses deep learning algorithms to achieve real-time monitoring of the number of dense hemp duck flocks and to promote the development of the intelligent farming industry. We constructed a new large-scale hemp duck object detection image dataset, which contains 1500 hemp duck object detection full-body frame labeling and head-only frame labeling. In addition, this paper proposes an improved attention mechanism YOLOv7 algorithm, CBAM-YOLOv7, adding three CBAM modules to the backbone network of YOLOv7 to improve the network’s ability to extract features and introducing SE-YOLOv7 and ECA-YOLOv7 for comparison experiments. The experimental results show that CBAM-YOLOv7 had higher precision, and the recall, mAP@0.5, and mAP@0.5:0.95 were slightly improved. The evaluation index value of CBAM-YOLOv7 improved more than those of SE-YOLOv7 and ECA-YOLOv7. In addition, we also conducted a comparison test between the two labeling methods and found that the head-only labeling method led to the loss of a high volume of feature information, and the full-body frame labeling method demonstrated a better detection effect. The results of the algorithm performance evaluation show that the intelligent hemp duck counting method proposed in this paper is feasible and can promote the development of smart reliable automated duck counting.
Rice pests are one of the main factors affecting rice yield. The accurate identification of pests facilitates timely preventive measures to avoid economic losses. Some existing open source datasets related to rice pest identification mostly include only a small number of samples, or suffer from inter-class and intra-class variance and data imbalance challenges, which limit the application of deep learning techniques in the field of rice pest identification. In this paper, based on the IP102 dataset, we first reorganized a large-scale dataset for rice pest identification by Web crawler technique and manual screening. This dataset was given the name IP_RicePests. Specifically, the dataset includes 8248 images belonging to 14 categories. The IP_RicePests dataset was then expanded to include 14,000 images via ARGAN data augmentation technique to address the difficulties in obtaining large samples of rice pests. Finally, the parameters trained on the public image ImageNet dataset using VGGNet, ResNet and MobileNet networks were used as the initial values of the target data training network to achieve image classification in the field of rice pests. The experimental results show that all three classification networks combined with transfer learning have good recognition accuracy, among which the highest classification accuracy can be obtained on the IP_RicePests dataset via fine-tuning the parameters of the VGG16 network. In addition, following ARGAN data augmentation the dataset demonstrates high accuracy improvements in all three models, and fine-tuning the VGG16 network parameters obtains the highest accuracy in the augmented IP_RicePests dataset. It is demonstrated that CNN combined with transfer learning can employ the ARGAN data augmentation technique to overcome difficulties in obtaining large sample sizes and improve the efficiency of rice pest identification. This study provides foundational data and technical support for rice pest identification.
Excellent performance has been demonstrated in implementing challenging agricultural production processes using modern information technology, especially in the use of artificial intelligence methods to improve modern production environments. However, most of the existing work uses visual methods to train models that extract image features of organisms to analyze their behavior, and it may not be truly intelligent. Because vocal animals transmit information through grunts, the information obtained directly from the grunts of pigs is more useful to understand their behavior and emotional state, which is important for monitoring and predicting the health conditions and abnormal behavior of pigs. We propose a sound classification model called TransformerCNN, which combines the advantages of CNN spatial feature representation and the Transformer sequence coding to form a powerful global feature perception and local feature extraction capability. Through detailed qualitative and quantitative evaluations and by comparing state-of-the-art traditional animal sound recognition methods with deep learning methods, we demonstrate the advantages of our approach for classifying domestic pig sounds. The scores for domestic pig sound recognition accuracy, AUC and recall were 96.05%, 98.37% and 90.52%, respectively, all higher than the comparison model. In addition, it has good robustness and generalization capability with low variation in performance for different input features.
At present, fish farming still uses manual identification methods. With the rapid development of deep learning, the application of computer vision in agriculture and farming to achieve agricultural intelligence has become a current research hotspot. We explored the use of facial recognition in fish. We collected and produced a fish identification dataset with 3412 images and a fish object detection dataset with 2320 images. A rotating box is proposed to detect fish, which avoids the problem where the traditional object detection produces a large number of redundant regions and affects the recognition accuracy. A self-SE module and a fish face recognition network (FFRNet) are proposed to implement the fish face identification task. The experiments proved that our model has an accuracy rate of over 90% and an FPS of 200.
