Prof. Fournier is a distinguished professor at the University of Lille and held a position as co-director of PRISM Inserm U1192. She is an analytical chemist specializing in mass spectrometry applied to biology and clinics. After obtaining a Ph.D. in 2000 from the University of Paris 6, she pursued her work on the fundamentals of MALDI processes in the group of Prof. Michael Karas. In 2002, she started to develop MALDI MSI at the University of Lille and established her own group. She has contributed to the field of MALDI MSI with several developments, including new MALDI matrices, strategies for FFPE tissues and proteins, and the development of the targeted imaging of mRNA and proteins. In 2009, she was hired as a professor and awarded a junior position at the Institut Universitaire de France. In 2010, she co-founded the Imabiotech Company, which provides services in MALDI MSI. Since 2012, she has been interested in the development of spatially resolved proteomics in combination with MALDI MSI for clinical applications in the field of oncology. For 5 years, she has been interested in the development of in vivo MS as a tool for guided surgery and intraoperative analysis. She has authored 171 publications (h-index 45, 6848 citations), 11 patents, 14 book chapters, and 120 conferences. She was recently distinguished for her contribution to clinical mass spectrometry with the MSACL Distinguished Contribution Award and a senior position at the Institut Universitaire de France.
