With the ability of providing direct and accurate enough range measurements, light detection and ranging (LiDAR) is playing an essential role in localization and detection for autonomous vehicles. Since single LiDAR suffers from hardware failure and performance degradation intermittently, we present a multi-LiDAR integration scheme in this article. Our framework tightly couples multiple non-repetitive scanning LiDARs with inertial, wheel encoder, and real-time kinematic (RTK) into pose estimation and simultaneous global map generation. Primarily, we formulate a precise synchronization strategy to integrate isolated sensors, and the extracted feature points from separate LiDARs are merged into a single sweep. The fused scans are introduced to compute the scan-matching correspondences, which can be further refined by additional RTK measurements. Based thereupon, we construct a factor graph along with the inertial preintegration result, estimated ground constraints, and RTK data. For the purpose of maintaining a restricted number of poses for estimation, we deploy a keyframe based sliding-window optimization strategy in our system. The real-time performance is guaranteed with multi-threaded computation, and extensive experiments are conducted in challenging scenarios. Experimental results show that the utilization of multiple LiDARs boosts the system performance in both robustness and accuracy.
With the ability to provide long range, highly accurate 3D surrounding measurements, while lowering the device cost, non-repetitive scanning Livox lidars have attracted considerable interest in the last few years. They have seen a huge growth in use in the fields of robotics and autonomous vehicles. In virtue of their restricted FoV, they are prone to degeneration in feature-poor scenes and have difficulty detecting the loop. In this paper, we present a robust multi-lidar fusion framework for self-localization and mapping problems, allowing different numbers of Livox lidars and suitable for various platforms. First, an automatic calibration procedure is introduced for multiple lidars. Based on the assumption of rigidity of geometric structure, the transformation between two lidars can be configured through map alignment. Second, the raw data from different lidars are time-synchronized and sent to respective feature extraction processes. Instead of sending all the feature candidates for estimating lidar odometry, only the most informative features are selected to perform scan registration. The dynamic objects are removed in the meantime, and a novel place descriptor is integrated for enhanced loop detection. The results show that our proposed system achieved better results than single Livox lidar methods. In addition, our method outperformed novel mechanical lidar methods in challenging scenarios. Moreover, the performance in feature-less and large motion scenarios has also been verified, both with approvable accuracy.
This paper designs a cascading vector tracking loop based on the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) for high dynamic environment. Constant improvement in dynamic performance is an enormous challenge to the traditional receiver. Due to the doppler effect, the satellite signals received by these vehicles contain fast changing doppler frequency shifts and the first and second derivatives of doppler frequency, which will directly cause a negative impact on the receiver’s stable tracking of the signals. In order to guarantee the dynamic performance and the tracking accuracy, this paper designs a vector carrier structure to estimate the doppler component of a signal. Firstly, after the coherence integral, the IQ values are reorganized into new observations. Secondly, the phase error and frequency of the carrier are estimated through the pre-filter. Then, the pseudorange and carrier frequency are used as the observations of the main filter to estimate the motion state of the aircraft. Finally, the current state is fed back to the carrier Numerical Controlled Oscillator (NCO) as a complete closed loop. In the whole structure, the cascading vector loop replaces the original carrier tracking loop, and the stable signal tracking of code loop is guaranteed by carrier assisted pseudo-code method. In this paper, with the high dynamic signals generated by the GNSS signal simulator, this designed algorithm is validated by a software receiver. The results show that this loop has a wider dynamic tracking range and lower tracking error than the second-order frequency locked loop assisted third-order phase locked loop in high dynamic circumstances. When the acceleration of carrier is 100 g, the convergence time of vector structure is about 100 ms, and the carrier phase error is lower than 0.6 mm.
Optimal Kalman filtering theory has developed for many years. With the characteristics of unscented transformation, the unscented Kalman filtering (UKF) makes it possible to maintain locking with large Doppler frequency shift when the receiver works in high dynamic environment. A carrier tracking loop based on UKF with high accurate tracking performance, which can work in high dynamic environment, is put forward. This paper studies a novel feedback method of voltage-controlled oscillator in a carrier tracking loop based on UKF, which can improve the measurement accuracy and enhance the robustness of the UKF carrier tracking loop. Since the measured data has been modulated by navigation message, this paper amends the model of measurement equation to tally with the actual measured data. Finally, in a high dynamic environment with acceleration over 100g and normal signal strength, the measurement accuracy of carrier phase is better than 0.5mm, and the measurement accuracy of carrier frequency is better than 0.5HZ.
In GPS-denied environments, the spatio-temporal coupling of errors caused by dynamic network topologies poses a fundamental challenge to cooperative localization, presenting existing methods with a dilemma: approaches pursuing global optimization lack dynamic adaptability, while those focusing on local adaptation struggle to guarantee global convergence. To address this challenge, this paper proposes ST-DCL, a cooperative localization framework based on a novel principle of closed-loop spatio-temporal decoupling. The core of ST-DCL comprises two modules: a Dynamic Weighted Multidimensional Scaling (DW-MDS) optimizer, responsible for providing a globally consistent coarse estimate with provable convergence, and a specially designed Spatio-Temporal Graph Neural Network (ST-GNN) corrector, tasked with compensating for local nonlinear errors. The DW-MDS effectively suppresses interference from historical errors via an adaptive sliding window and confidence weights derived from our error propagation model. The key innovation of the ST-GNN lies in its two newly designed components: a Dynamic Topological Attention Module for actively modulating neighbor aggregation to inhibit spatial error diffusion, and a Dilated Causal Convolution Module for modeling long-term temporal dependencies to curb error accumulation. These two modules form a closed loop via a confidence feedback mechanism, working in synergy to achieve continuous error suppression. Theoretical analysis indicates that the framework exhibits bounded-error convergence under dynamic topologies. In simulations involving 200 nodes, velocities up to 50 m/s, and 15% NLOS links, the ST-DCL achieves a normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) of 0.0068, representing a 21% performance improvement over state-of-the-art methods. The practical efficacy and real-time capability are further validated through real-world flight experiments with a 10-UAV swarm in complex, GPS-denied scenarios.

Road modelling based on point-cloud data often encounters signal-rejection areas, where the absence of absolute position constraints leads to rapid error accumulation in the constructed map. Mitigating error growth requires manual setting of control points, which compromises automation in the mapping process and causes a challenging trade-off between efficiency and accuracy. To address these issues, in the present study, we designed a fast and efficient map-construction method that provides absolute pose constraints for simultaneous localisation and mapping based on the bidirectional filter position of the global navigation satellite system (GNSS)/inertial measurement unit integrated navigation. First, we designed an absolute position constraint factor (BF_Factor) updated at each epoch according to the reference-position difference and time-delay error, which can significantly mitigate error divergence during mobile mapping in a GNSS-rejected region. An adaptive noise model was then constructed for the above factors so that the weights of different factors could be adjusted automatically to achieve a more accurate mapping result. Finally, we conducted experimental tests on the proposed mapping approach in two scenarios that included multiple GNSS-rejected areas. Even when several hundred metres of GNSS signal-obstructed areas were present in the scene, the relocation results indicated that the three-dimensional position error obtained using point-cloud maps was <0.15 m and the pitch/roll error was better than 2°. Compared with Fastlio2 and Fastlio2 with Scan Context, the proposed method had a better mapping effect and higher mapping accuracy in the aforementioned scenarios. The method proposed in this paper can reduce the human labour cost in traditional modelling and can provide more rapid and accurate map for related industry applications.
