The present research assesses the influence of globalization and technological innovation on CO2 emissions in South Korea as well as taking into account the role of renewable energy consumption and energy consumption utilizing datasets between 1980 and 2018. The autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing method is utilized to assess long-run cointegration. The outcome of the ARDL bounds test confirmed cointegration among the series. Furthermore, the ARDL reveals that economic growth, energy consumption and globalization trigger environmental degradation while technological innovation improves the quality of the environment. In addition, the study employed the frequency domain causality test to capture causal linkage among the series. The major advantage of this approach is that causal linkage between series can be captured at the short, medium and long term, respectively. The outcomes of the causality test revealed that globalization, technological innovation, economic growth and energy use can predict CO2 emissions in South Korea.

Entrepreneurship, innovation and technology are essential to the economic development of societies. Universities are increasingly involved in creating an internal favourable environment supporting entrepreneurship and innovation. In our work, we aimed to study the role of university for the development of technopreneurial intentions in a sample of Bulgarian STEM (STEM refers to any subjects that fall under the disciplines of science, technology, engineering or mathematics.) students exhibiting entrepreneurial intentions. The empirical findings of the study are in line with previous empirical evidence about the role of university support for entrepreneurial intentions among students; results also show that students in universities with better research in their scientific field of study are more likely to exhibit technopreneurial intention. Determinants of entrepreneurial intentions identified in the literature such as entrepreneurial role models, perceived support from social networks, willingness to take risks and gender may not be relevant specifically for technopreneurial intentions. The results of the study have important practical implications.

In 1995, the so-called “turbot war” between Spain and Canada was pivotal for Iberian fisheries. The main objective of this research is to revisit the turbot war to reflect on the issue of governing fisheries on the high seas, the cause behind the war, and how it was resolved. This paper provides guidelines for future research on the management of high seas fisheries.

Digital distribution is a new technology that is revolutionizing the pop-rock music market. Extensive debate exists on the long tail theory that predicts a niche strategy in the pop-rock market versus the conventional wisdom of a “superstar effect” that predicts skewness in the market outcomes for artists. Our research tests the empirical evidence of such effects and elaborates on how the firms respond to this disruptive technological revolution and how this response changes strategic management.

The XXXI International Congress of Applied Economics, ASEPELT 2017, took place in Lisbon, from 5 to 8 July, 2017. The organization was the responsibility of ISEG/UL (Lisboa School of Economics & Management - University of Lisbon) that went on working to offer a stimulating scientific and social program for the Congress. The theme of the Congress -Real Economy and Finance- had, as main objective, to stimulate the debate around the problematic of Crisis and Globalization, and its effects on the World/European economies (and, especially, in the Iberian countries). The impacts that these phenomena have brought to the so-called real economy and the process of “financialization” of the economy (and related risks) that has been associated with it, the possible responses to the crisis and the promotion of a new development model, were at the center of the debates.Particular attention to the issues of applied economics and of the methodologies and techniques of analysis of economic and business information was also in our objectives. At the same time it was proposed to the Organizing Committee to integrate the number of September Of ESTUDIOS DE ECONOMIA APLICADA review with a related “monográfico” that would be composed of papers both presented at the conference or coming directly to the review, following a specific call for papers. The Theme should be related with the central purpose of the ASEPELT 2017, even if different and specific.
