Late frost damage is one of the main meteorological disasters that affect the growth of wine grapes in spring, causing a decline in wine grapes quality and a reduction in yield in Northwest China. At present, remote sensing technology has been widely used in the field of crop meteorological disasters monitoring and loss assessments, but little research has been carried out on late frost damage in wine grapes. To monitor the impact of late frost in wine grapes accurately and quickly, in this research, we selected the Ningxia planting area as the study area. A practical framework of late frost damage on wine grapes by integrating visible, near-infrared, and thermal infrared satellite data is proposed. This framework includes: (1) Wine grape planting area extraction using Gaofen-1 (GF-1), Landsat-8, and Sentinel-2 based on optimal feature selection and Random Forest (RF) algorithm; (2) retrieval of the land surface temperature (LST) using Landsat-8 thermal infrared data; (3) data fusion using Landsat-8 LST and MODIS LST for a high spatiotemporal resolution of LST with the Enhanced Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (ESTARFM); (4) the estimation of daily minimum air temperature (Tmin) using downscaled LST and meteorological station data; (5) monitoring and evaluation of the degree of late frost damage in wine grapes in April 2020 by combining satellite-derived data and late frost indicators. The results show that the total area of wine grapes extracted in Ningxia was about 39,837 ha. The overall accuracy was 90.47%, the producer’s accuracy was 91.09%, and the user’s accuracy was 90.22%. The root mean square (RMSE) and the coefficient of determination (R2) of the Tmin estimation model were 1.67 ℃ and 0.91, respectively. About 41.12% of the vineyards suffered severe late frost damage, and the total affected area was about 16,381 ha during April 20–25, 2020. This suggests the satellite data can accurately monitor late frost damage in wine grapes by mapping the wine grape area and estimating Tmin. The results can help farmers to take remedial measures to reduce late frost damage in wine grapes, and provide an objective evaluation of late frost damage insurance claims for wine grapes. With the increasing weather extremes, this study has an important reference value for standardized global wine grape management and food security planning.

Remote sensing, the Internet, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, and other technologies have become the core elements of modern agriculture and smart farming. Agricultural production and management modes guided by data and services have become a cutting-edge carrier of agricultural information monitoring, which promotes the transformation of the intelligent computing of remote sensing big data and agricultural intensive management from theory to practical applications. In this paper, the main research objective is to construct a new high-frequency agricultural production monitoring and intensive sharing service and management mode, based on the three dimensions of space, time, and attributes, that includes crop recognition, growth monitoring, yield estimation, crop disease or pest monitoring, variable-rate prescription, agricultural machinery operation, and other automatic agricultural intelligent computing applications. The platforms supported by this mode include a data management and agricultural information production subsystem, an agricultural monitoring and macro-management subsystem (province and county scales), and two mobile terminal applications (APPs). Taking Shandong as the study area of the application case, the technical framework of the system and its mobile terminals were systematically elaborated at the province and county levels, which represented macro-management and precise control of agricultural production, respectively. The automatic intelligent computing mode of satellite–air–ground spatiotemporal collaboration that we proposed fully couples data obtained from satellites, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and IoT technologies, which can provide the accurate and timely monitoring of agricultural conditions and real-time guidance for agricultural machinery scheduling throughout the entire process of agricultural cultivation, planting, management, and harvest; the area accuracy of all obtained agricultural information products is above 90%. This paper demonstrates the necessity of customizable product and service research in agricultural intelligent computing, and the proposed practical mode can provide support for governments to participate in agricultural macro-management and decision making, which is of great significance for smart farming development and food security.

High-spatiotemporal resolution soil moisture (SM) plays an essential role in optimized irrigation, agricultural droughts, and hydrometeorological model simulations. However, producing high-spatiotemporal seamless soil moisture products is challenging due to the inability of optical bands to penetrate clouds and the coarse spatiotemporal resolution of microwave and reanalysis products. To address these issues, this study proposed a framework for multi-source data merging based on the triple collocation (TC) method with an explicit physical mechanism, which was dedicated to generating seamless 1 km daily soil moisture products. Current merging techniques based on the TC method often lack seamless daily optical data input. To remedy this deficiency, our study performed a spatiotemporal reconstruction on MODIS LST and NDVI, and retrieved seamless daily optical soil moisture products. Then, the optical-derived sm1, microwave-retrieved sm2 (ESA CCI combined), and reanalysis sm3 (CLDAS) were matched by the cumulative distribution function (CDF) method to eliminate bias, and their weights were determined by the TC method. Finally, the least squares algorithm and the significance judgment were adopted to complete the merging. Although the CLDAS soil moisture presented anomalies over several stations, our proposed method can detect and reduce this impact by minimizing its weight, which shows the robustness of the method. This framework was implemented in the Naqu region, and the results showed that the merged products captured the temporal variability of the SM and depicted spatial information in detail; the validation with the in situ measurement obtained an average ubRMSE of 0.046 m³/m³. Additionally, this framework is transferrable to any area with measured sites for better agricultural and hydrological applications.

In the context of climate change and the development of sustainable agricultural, crop yield prediction is key to ensuring food security. In this study, long-term vegetation and meteorological indices were obtained from the MOD09A1 product and daily weather data. Three types of time series data were constructed by aggregating data from an 8-day period (DP), 9-month period (MP), and six growth periods (GP). And we developed the yield prediction model by using random forest (RF) and long short-term memory (LSTM) networks. Results showed that the average root mean squared error (RMSE) of the RF model in each province was 0.5 Mg/ha lower than that of the LSTM model. Both the RF and LSTM prediction accuracies increased with the later growth stages data. Partial dependence plots showed that the influence degree of DVI on yield was above 2 Mg/ha. When the time length of the feature variables was shortened to MP or GP, the growing degree days (GDD), average minimum temperature (AveTmin), and effective precipitation (EP) showed stronger nonlinear relationships with the statistical yields.
