Biography

Juan Ignacio Vilchez obtained a BSc in Environmental Sciences from the University of Granada (Spain) in 2009 and later completed an MSc in Research and Advances in Microbiology (2010) and a PhD in Fundamental and Systems Biology (Environmental Microbiology) at the University of Granada (2016). He worked as a Contracted Researcher at the University of Granada (2010–2011) and held postdoctoral appointments in Granada (2016) and at the Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2016–2020). In 2020, he moved to ITQB NOVA (Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal), where he became an Auxiliary Researcher (2021–2025) and is currently an Assistant Researcher (2025–present). His research focuses on plant-microbe interactions, exudate signalling, plant microbiomes (including seed microbiota), bioinoculants, biosafety, and omics-driven mechanisms of plant stress resilience (e.g., drought/salinity tolerance, metabolomics/proteomics/transcriptomics, and epigenetic regulation).
