Primary nephrotic syndrome (PNS) is common in children, affecting the soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. This study aimed to investigate the percentage of dental caries, gingivitis, hypertrophic gingivitis, and developmental defects of enamel (DDE) in children with PNS. The association of PNS with these diseases and oral care behavior was also assessed. A total of 407 children with PNS and 407 age- and gender-matched controls were recruited. PNS was diagnosed based on blood and urinary tests. The Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S), the Gingival Index (GI), the Gingival Overgrowth Index (GOI), the Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth Index (dmft/DMFT), and DDE were collected. The PNS patients showed significantly higher scores of OHI-S, GI, and dmft, and higher proportions of dental caries and DDE than those of the controls (p < 0.001). It is necessary to establish a periodic dental protocol for PNS patients to improve their oral health status.
Classification and resin infiltration treatment of MIH-related permanent anterior teeth are increasingly receiving attention nowadays. Objective: The study aims to evaluate the characteristics of these teeth; and to assess factors regarding treatment. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using transilluminated and reflected light photographs, and the lesion was classified according to its color, size, type, heterogeneity and surface integrity. The data were analyzed using a chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression analysis to evaluate enamel craze lines (ECL), post-eruptive breakdown (PEB), and treatment procedures. Results: 73 teeth from 46 patients were included, in which 53 teeth had been treated. Size I showed the highest rate of PEB (66.67%). Females (OR = 20.39 (95%CI: 1.62 – 256.18)) and colored lesions (OR = 13.01 (95%CI: 1.82 – 93.13)) were associated with ECL/PEB. Microabrasion and etching cycles were inversely proportional and PEB required 4.33 etching cycles on average. A significant relationship was observed between surface integrity and composite fillings, between yellow/brown spot transformation and lesion color, sex and homogeneity. Conclusion: Lesion color, size, and sex are significant factors influencing ECL and PEB, while sex, surface integrity, lesion color, and homogeneity affect the treatment. Dental practitioners should consider these factors to provide appropriate treatment planning and consultation.

A bstract: Aim: To cross-culturally adapt and validate the Vietnamese version of the Index of Dental Anxiety and Fear – Core Module (IDAF-4C) and assess its psychometric properties among adult dental patients in Vietnam. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 243 adult patients at a university dental hospital in Hanoi. The English IDAF-4C was translated into Vietnamese (V-IDAF-4C) following established cross-cultural adaptation guidelines. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach's α and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with principal axis factoring and varimax rotation. Convergent validity was evaluated by correlating the V-IDAF-4C with the Vietnamese Modified Dental Anxiety scale (MDAS) using Spearman’s coefficient. Results: The V-IDAF-4C demonstrated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.88). EFA confirmed a unidimensional structure, with a single factor explaining 54.78% of the total variance (eigenvalue = 4.38) and strong factor loadings for all eight items (ranging from 0.42 to 0.87). Strong convergent validity was established through a significant positive correlation with the MDAS (Spearman’s ρ = 0.73, 95% confidence interval: 0.67–0.79; P < 0.01). The prevalence of moderate-to-high dental anxiety was 28.39% (19.34% moderate, 9.05% high) according to the V-IDAF-4C scale. Conclusion: The Vietnamese IDAF-4C demonstrates good validity and reliability for assessing the multidimensional aspects of dental anxiety and fear. It is a suitable tool for clinicians and researchers in Vietnam to screen for dental anxiety and fear, which can help in developing tailored patient management strategies and more effective treatment plans.
