Dr. Hideyuki Kanematsu (FASM, FIMF) is an internationally recognized expert in surface materials science. His research focuses on interfacial phenomena such as biofilm formation, antibacterial and antiviral materials, and surface modification technologies. He also promotes digital education through e-learning and virtual tools in materials science. He earned his B.Eng. (1981), M.Eng. (1983), and Ph.D. (1989) from Nagoya University. After holding academic positions at Nagoya and Osaka Universities, he joined the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Suzuka College in 1992. There he served as Department Head (2010–2014) and Assistant to the President (2014–2018), and became Professor Emeritus upon retirement in 2021. Dr. Kanematsu leads the Materials Science unit of the national “GEAR 5.0” project (2020–2025) and has served as Visiting Professor at Nagoya University since 2020. He was named a Fellow of ASM International in 2022 for his contributions to corrosion and surface science. In 2024, he founded BEL Inc., a private research institute where he serves as President, translating four decades of academic work into applied innovation.
