Coal and gas outburst is one of the major serious natural disasters during underground coal, and the shock air flow produced by outburst has a huge threat on the mine safety. In order to study the two-phase flow of a mixture of pulverized coal and gas of a mixture of pulverized coal and gas migration properties and its shock effect during the process of coal and gas outburst, the coal samples of the outburst coal seam in Yuyang Coal Mine, Chongqing, China were selected as the experimental subjects. By using the self-developed coal and gas outburst simulation test device, we simulated the law of two-phase flow of a mixture of pulverized coal and gas in the roadway network where outburst happened. The results showed that the air in the roadway around the outburst port is disturbed by the shock wave, where the pressure and temperature are abruptly changed. For the initial gas pressure of 0.35 MPa, the air pressure in different locations of the roadway fluctuated and eventually remain stable, and the overpressure of the outburst shock wave was about 20~35 kPa. The overpressure in the main roadway and the distance from the outburst port showed a decreasing trend. The highest value of temperature in the roadway increased by 0.25 °C and the highest value of gas concentration reached 38.12% during the experiment. With the action of shock air flow, the pulverized coal transportation in the roadway could be roughly divided into three stages, which are the accelerated movement stage, decelerated movement stage and the particle settling stage respectively. Total of 180.7 kg pulverized coal of outburst in this experiment were erupted, and most of them were accumulated in the main roadway. Through the analysis of the law of outburst shock wave propagation, a shock wave propagation model considering gas desorption efficiency was established. The relationships of shock wave overpressure and outburst intensity, gas desorption rate, initial gas pressure, cross section and distance of the roadway were obtained, which can provide a reference for the protection of coal and gas outburst and control of catastrophic ventilation.

In this study, an indicator model and system for coal and gas outburst prediction are identified and established based on gas geological anomalies, mining stress, and gas emission characteristics. In this regard, the coal and gas outburst prevention techniques and mine rules in China are taken into account. In addition, using this model, an online integrated system and database for coal and gas outburst prediction were built for Xinjing Mine in Shanxi Province. The application results of the prediction system indicate that the system software and hardware can guarantee early warning of coal and gas outburst. The system is continuous and stable, and the early warning results are issued in a timely and accurate manner. The accuracy of the early warning results is high and consistent with the actual risk of the mine.

The stability of the coal-rock composite structure is of great significance to the safety production of deep mines, and the different interface connection modes of coal and rock have an important influence on its stability. Therefore, the following work was done in this article: Firstly, the mechanical structure model of coal-rock was established, and the influence of different interface connection modes on coal rock was analyzed. Secondly, the mechanical characteristics (plastic zone, stress, and displacement) of coal-rock composite structure under different interface connection modes were studied by numerical simulation, and the energy was quantitatively analyzed by FISH language in FLAC3D. The results were as follows: (1) The interface reduces the strength of rock and increases the strength of coal in the coal-rock composite structure. (2) In the loading process, the coal body is destroyed first and the destruction range increases gradually with the increase of stress. The failure mode is mainly a plastic shear failure, and the deformation of coal is much larger than that of rock in the composite structure. (3) The interface contact mode affects the mechanical behavior of coal and rock structure. The strong contact interface influences the strength, displacement, and energy accumulation of coal and rock structure, among which the influence on energy and displacement is greater, which is helpful to the improvement of strength. Therefore, it is suggested to adopt the strong contact interface in the study of coal and rock structure.

In view of the problems of heavy work, long cycle, high cost and low efficiency in the process of indirect determination of coal seam gas content, the basic gas parameters and coal quality indexes of 24 coal samples from 5 coal mines in the Hancheng area of Shanxi Province are measured by the laboratory measurement method. The raw coal gas content–gas desorption index of drilling cuttings (W–K1) relationship model is characterized by logarithmic function. Using SPSS data analysis software, a stepwise multiple linear regression method is used for statistical analysis. The results show that the factors that have a significant impact on the regression slope C in the W–K1 relationship model are gas adsorption constant (a), apparent density (ARD), initial velocity of gas diffusion (Δp) and consistent coefficient (f). The factors that have a significant impact on the regression constant D are Δp and atmospheric adsorption (Q). Then, the mathematical model of rapid prediction of coal seam gas content is determined. Compared with the measured values, the average absolute error rate is 12.84%, which meets the prediction requirements and provides a simple and easy method for rapid determination of coal seam gas content in coal mines in the Hancheng area.

Coal is the mainstay of China’s energy supply. With the gradual progress in China’s policy of phasing out backward coal production capacity, the intensive and deep mining of coal has gradually become the new norm. The current mining depth is increasing at a rate of 10~15 m/year. The high crust stress, high gas pressure, high ground temperature, and engineering disturbance stress in deep coal mines can lead to the occurrence of coal–rock–gas dynamic disasters that are complex and show the characteristics of compound dynamic disasters. It is important to understand the evolution and mechanism of deep coal and rock dynamic disasters accurately for the safe development of deep resources. To study the mechanism of occurrence and the evolution of impact–protrusion compound dynamic disasters, we herein analyzed the apparent characteristics of coal–rock–gas compound dynamic disasters in deep mines and obtained the mechanical and acoustic emission characteristics of coal–rock composites through indoor experiments. Then, we conducted in-depth analysis on the non-uniform deformation behaviors and non-uniform stress field of the coal–rock composite and clarified the generation mechanism of local tensile cracks at the coal–rock interface. Subsequently, we established the energy transfer model of the rock–rock–gas composite specimen in the process of dynamic destabilization in the engineering scale mining field and revealed the mechanism of nonlinear energy evolution and release of the coal–rock–gas composite, which has been less reported in previous studies. In this paper, we further clarified the occurrence and development mechanism of coal–rock–gas compound dynamic disasters in the engineering scale mining environment to guide the prevention and control of coal–rock–gas dynamic disasters in deep mines.

The permeability of coal is a critical parameter in estimating the performance of coal reservoirs. Darcy’s law describes the flow pattern that the permeability has a linear relationship with the flow velocity. However, the stress induced deformation and damage can significantly influence the gas flow pattern and permeability of coal. Coals from Songzao coalfield in Chongqing, southwest China were collected for the study. The gas flow velocities under different injection gas pressures and effective stresses in the intact coal and damaged coal were tested using helium, incorporating the role of gas flow pattern on the permeability of coal. The relationships between the flow velocity and square of gas pressure gradient were discussed, which can help us to investigate the transformation conditions of gas linear flow and gas nonlinear flow in the coal. The results showed that the gas flow in the intact coal existed pseudo-initial flow rate under low effective stress. The low-velocity non-Darcy gas flow gradually occurred and the start-up pressure gradient increased in the coal as the effective stress increased. The gas flow rate in the damaged coal increased nonlinearly as the square of pressure gradient increased under low effective stress. The instability of gas flow caused by high ratio of injection gas pressure over effective stress in the damaged coal contributed to the increase of the gas flow rate. As the effective stress increased, the increase of gas flow rate in coal turned to be linear. The mechanisms of the phenomena were explored according to the experimental results. The permeability of coal was corrected based on the relationships between the flow velocity and square of gas pressure gradient, which showed advantages in accurately estimating the performance of coal reservoirs.
