The study addresses sustainable development in the forest and recreational park of Germia in the Capital City of Kosovo. The park serves the residents and other visitors’ socioeconomic and environmental needs, such as leisure, sports, meditation, and biodiversity and ecological roles. Sustainable management and the development of natural resources are a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising future generations’ ability to meet their own needs. The study used the contingent valuation method to assess willingness to pay for the sustainable management and development of Germia forest and recreational park, given the values it serves the people. The study surveyed 208 respondents about their opinions on the willingness to pay for the sustainable management and development of the forest and recreational park. The results showed that 56% were willing to pay for recreational services, while 44% were against it because they were not satisfied with the park’s services. The majority (62%) were also willing to pay for this service in tax from their salaries. This showed that an average percentage of people were willing to pay for the sustainable management and development of the forest and recreational park. Therefore, this study serves as a basis for future similar studies and policy decisions for park development.

Charcoal and firewood fuel biomass utilization is thought to be the main cause of deforestation in Uganda. Moreover, the practice of utilizing charcoal and wood fuel in Uganda is said to impact the health of many women and children in the region. The goal of this study was to comprehensively analyze charcoal and wood fuel utilization processes in Uganda and sub-Saharan Africa and the environmental and socioeconomic dynamics and implications. The study equally intended to model out some possible improvements to wood fuel use while conserving natural forests. Both qualitative and qualitative approaches were used to study the charcoal and wood fuel energy situation in Uganda. The study collected field data (sample size: 199) which was subjected to descriptive analysis. The findings show that over 90% of households in Uganda and the sub- Saharan region use firewood and charcoal wood fuel, and that this fuel use creates social and environmental hazards. Our findings are also in agreement with numerous empirical studies showing that firewood and charcoal biomass are among the major causes of deforestation in Uganda and the sub-Saharan region. Ceteris paribus, we propose the adoption of Improved Eco-Stoves (ICE), which not only enable comprehensive combustion but also lessen the quantity of firewood used by more than 60%, together with policy decisions on the government of Uganda, given peoples willingness to take on alternative energy sources such as gas and electricity.

Uganda is richly endowed with flora and fauna. Until the early 2000s, most of the types of vegetation have remained natural/virgin forests and shrubs until recent years, when human activities have damaged them. Understanding the different ways that people value such endangered forest resources is very important. The main hypothesis in our study is that willingness to pay (WTP) for forest existence value and sustainability depends on the preference for the same values. In addition, we examined socioeconomic characteristics, such as sex, education, and household incomes, which could influence the WTP for forest existence value and sustainability. We carried out field questionnaire interviews with the aim of ascertaining Willingness to Pay (WTP) for forest existence. The WTP values were in a range between 1 and 200 USD based on the contingent valuation method (CVM). A sample with a size of 203 was interviewed in selected towns and villages in Uganda, and the data collected were subjected to statistical analysis. The cross-tabulation of the expressed preferences illustrates that 81.9% of the representative sample are willing to pay for forest existence value and sustainability. We concluded that the willingness to pay for forest existence significantly depends on the preference for forest existence values and sustainability. Our results equally express that the mean WTP in this region is 15 USD per year and that over 60% are willing to pay this amount. The socioeconomic determinants’ results demonstrate heterogeneity and that over 90% of the respondents are willing to pay for forest existence, conservation, and sustainability.

For decades, transportation has been considered as a link to all aspects of life worldwide. In this case, the world’s natural environment, social well-being and economic development all usually depend on transportation systems. In most cases, safe, clean, sustainable and equitable transport systems help countries, especially in cities and urban centers, to thrive. However, a wide range of research shows that transportation systems in most of the cities and urban areas are unsustainable. In fact, some of these transportation systems are considered to be a threat to the environmental, social and economical aspects of future generations. In this perspective, therefore, changing such trends in transportation requires the collaboration of various stakeholders at regional, national and international levels. In this paper, therefore, a wide range of definitions of sustainable transport are discussed. More so, some of the aspects of smart transport for modern cities such as cycling and the role of women in sustainable transport were explored. With the aim of getting to the core of the subject, cases of women in bicycle transport, especially in the Netherlands and Germany compared to Kenya and Uganda are equally elucidated. Although not fully outlined, the idea of smart cities and sustainable transport have heterogeneous characteristics globally as discussed herein.

An additional objective of the research, which was a part of the project “Quantification of the Effect of the Selected Forest Enterprise on the Local Economy of the Region” of the Internal Grant Agency (IGA) of Mendel University in Brno conducted in 2016 was a large case study of the property of Pisek City Forests Ltd. This article is focused on surveying the willingness of area visitors to pay for usage of the recreational function of forests and evaluation of the used method. The evaluated part of the questionnaire survey was based on the method of contingent valuation founded on the willingness of respondents to pay for recreational function. It was found in the results of the questionnaire survey that visitors are not very willing to pay for recreational function, and it is especially because forests in the area of Pisek City Forests Ltd. are perceived as public assets and thus access to them should be without fee. Furthermore, there were problems found with the method. Thus it is necessary to find a new way of evaluation of the recreational potential of the area.

Public Relations (PR) is a natural, vital as well as persistent component of human social relationship. It may involve a campaign designed to develop goodwill for an individual or an organisation. There are, however, few researches relating to public relations and delivery of forestry services. The aim of this study was to examine the role public relations play in the delivery of forestry services with Ghana as case study. In order to obtain the relevant information for this research, an interview schedule was developed and used to gather information from regional heads and a set of questionnaire administered to the rest of the participants through random sampling. The research further affirmed that PR increases consumer awareness and identified radio and television to be the commonest PR tools used by the Ghana Forestry Commission (GFC). The study concluded that PR to a greater extent is the foundation of an organisation and its activities influence the execution and delivery of services. GFC is, however, urged to explore other inexpensive yet effective PR tools and strategies in order to broaden their reach.

Losses in the amount of timber, especially the accidental ones, are a long-term issue for both the forestry public and forest owners. The objective determination of accidental losses – the natural decreases in amount, has always been an important factor for determining the liability of employees for any damage caused to the forest owner or for the loss in the amount of timber. The paper focuses on the issue of losses in the amount of produced and sold timber and the issue of differences in the amount of sold timber arising due to different methods of ascertaining the amount of timber for accounting and tax purposes. The aim of the paper is to define the specifics of losses in the untreated timber and the specifics of differences occurring during the transfer of the timber's ownership in business relations. Furthermore, it was also analyzed the current situation in timber accounting and tax records and were proposed possibilities of solving this problem. A workable solution seems to be the discretion in recording the amounts of losses by employing the institute of accidental losses, i.e. losses up to the amount of an accidental decrease standard.

Although there has been an increasing interest in wooden construction in recent years, this type of constructions is still not as common as in the northern European countries (Sweden, Finland), the US, or Canada. The paper analyses users of wood-based houses in the Czech Republic. The paper presents partial results of this extensive marketing research, analyses dissatisfied users of wood-based houses and identifies socio-economic characteristics of the dissatisfied users. The survey was conducted by researchers from Mendel University in Brno in the year 2012 – 2014 and it covered 1,000 Czech households. Individual factors of perceiving wood-based houseś quality and price were processed both for the satisfied users and the dissatisfied users who would not purchase this type of building again. When processing the data obtained by the research the authors employed various analytical procedures. The prevailing data-analysis tools were basic statistical methods. The results for both groups were mutually compared. The paper deals with differences in socio-economic characteristics of satisfied and dissatisfied users of wooden family houses and makes recommendations for elimination of the number of the dissatisfied users.

The aim of the paper is to analyze tax burden of enterprises in the Czech Republic with the focus on small sawmill enterprises. The analysis covered selected tax payers in the Brno-Country District the Classification of Economic Activities of which was CZ-NACE 16.1, i.e. the Sawmilling and planning of wood. Subjects of the tax analysis were 4 entities the legal form of which was the self-employed person and which were payers of value added tax. One of the entities kept accounts, the other entities kept tax records. The authors analyzed the entitieś financial statements and tax returns and compared selected indicators. The paper presents the results of a survey conducted in 2013 by the researchers from the Department of Forest and Wood Products Economics and Policy. For data-protection reasons, no detailed information on selected subjects is presented. The purpose of the paper is to point out to two major problems identified by the research on tax burden of enterprises operating in the wood-processing industry. One of the problems is an inadequate and outdated database of wood-processing enterprises. The second problem is weaknesses in the tax-subjectś accounting systems that lead to incorrect determinations of tax liabilities.

The paper deals with the price development and pricing models in the Czech Republic and the neighbour states (Austria and Germany). The price of wooden material is a complicated indicator in methodical terms. In each country different factors influence the price development. The price development of raw wood in the Czech Republic is extraordinary in many aspects. The position of wood producers and companies in the wood processing industry in the market influences the overall position of global economy and the impact of negative factors following from the development of global economy in the previous years. The price issues of individual ranges of raw wood and their development come under the market mechanism and its relation of demand and offer. The material for the analysis of pricing models was obtained with secondary research based on getting information from the publicly available scientific and specialised literature, domestic and foreign internet sources, information from statistical databases and consultations with experts from practice. The employed methods were the analysis, comparison, consolidation and synthesis. Gained results were processed with fundamental statistical methods (elementary characteristics of timelines, correlation and the significance test of correlation coefficient). With the gained results theoretical possibilities of future price changes in contract relations were formulated in the conditions of the Czech Republic.

Investment is an important factor affecting the growth performance of the sector. Effective investments can improve the efficiency of production resources using, and make an intensive economic growth of the sector as well as to increase the production capacity of enterprises. The aim of the paper is to present indicators designed to measure the effectiveness of investments at the sectorial level and assess the efficiency of investment in the wood processing industry of the Czech Republic for a period of ten years. Measuring the effectiveness of investment is different at the enterprise level and at the sector level. On the basis of an analysis of available scientific literature, a system of indicators measuring investment effectiveness at the sector level was set up. Input data for the analysis was obtained from database of the Czech Statistics Office with annual data on selected economic indicators in wood processing industry for a period of years 2002 - 2011. Data was used in calculation of individual indicators for evaluating investment effectiveness. Results of analysis showed an insufficient efficiency of investment in the Czech wood processing industry. The effects of the implemented investments don’t occur sufficiently in the most important performance indicators.
