Xunsi WangYinsheng XuChalcogenide glasses have the advantages of a wide transparency window (over 20 μm) and high optical nonlinearity (up to a thousand times greater than that of silica glasses), making them good candidates for mid-infrared supercontinuum generation. In this review, we describe both the history and recent developments in mid-infrared supercontinuum generation from chalcogenide fibers according to three kinds of fiber structures: step-index, microstructured and tapered fibers. We also review the coherence properties of mid-infrared supercontinuum generation and all-fiber supercontinuum sources based on chalcogenide fibers.

About Me
Yinsheng Xu received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Material Science and Engineering from the East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai, China, in 2011. He also receive a Ph.D. degree from the University of Rennes 1, Rennes, France, in 2011. From 2011 to 2019, he was an Associate Professor with the Ningbo University, China. Since 2019, he has been an Associate Professor and was promoted to Professor in 2021 with the Wuhan University of Technology. He is the author of more than 80 articles and more than 10 inventions. His research interests include infrared fibers, infrared glass, and luminescent materials.
