Biography

Rosaria Lauceri studied at the University of Catania (Italy) and received her Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1994 (University of Catania (Italy)). Her main research topics included the role of non-covalent interactions and of molecular recognition in supramolecular aggregation and auto-organization processes of water-soluble porphyrins, with particular attention to i) hierarchical processes, ii) transfer, memory and amplification of chirality, iii) design and synthesis of mixed supramolecular complexes with defined stoichiometry and sequence. In 2001 she became researcher at the National Research Council of Italy, working at the Institute of Biostructure and Bioimaging of Catania till 2010. Then she moved to the Water Research Institute (IRSA) of Verbania (previously Institute of Ecosystem Study, Italy) where she deals mainly with bioactive products from aquatic organisms, particularly phycobiliproteins from algae and cyanobacteria (extraction, purification and applications) and chitin and chitosan from crustaceans and waste material/by-products from fishing or aquaculture industry.
