The development of the Internet of Things (IoT) security is comparatively slower than the pace of the IoT innovations. The seamless IoT network operates in an untrusted environment and is exposed to many malicious active attacks. As the process of identifying the modulation format of signals corrupted by noise and fading, automatic modulation classification (AMC) can be viewed as an effective approach to counter physical-layer threats for IoT as it can detect and identify the pilot jamming, deceptive jamming and sybil attacks. Nowadays, data-driven deep learning techniques, which are capable of extracting discriminative features and perform better robustness to channel and noise conditions, have drawn widespread attention. Deep residual network (ResNet) has strong representative ability, which can learn latent information repeatedly from the received signals and improve the classification accuracy. Meanwhile, the gated recurrent unit (GRU), which is capable of exploiting temporal information of the received signal can expand the dimension of the signal features for satisfactory classification performance. Considering the advantages of the above networks, this paper proposes a novel gated recurrent residual neural network (GrrNet) for feature-based AMC, where the amplitude and phase of the received signal are utilized as the inputs of GrrNet. In GrrNet, ResNet extractor module is first designed to extract the highly representative features and then temporal information is obtained by the subsequent GRU module which is capable of processing the representative features with arbitrary length for modulation classification. Moreover, extensive simulations are conducted to verify the classification performance and robustness of the proposed GrrNet and it is shown that GrrNet outperforms other recent deep learning-based AMC methods. Moreover, the influence of the network parameters, symbol length and frequency offset on performance is also explored.

This paper investigates the application of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) to satellite communication network over Shadowed-Rician fading channels. The impact of imperfect successive interference cancellation (ipSIC) on NOMA-based satellite network is taken into consideration from the perspective of practical scenarios. We first derive new exact expressions of outage probability for the p-th terrestrial user and provide the corresponding asymptotic analysis results. The diversity order of zero and p is achieved by the p-th terrestrial user with ipSIC and perfect successive interference cancellation (pSIC), respectively. Finally, the presented simulation results show that: 1) On the condition of pSIC, the outage behaviors of NOMA-based satellite network are superior to that of orthogonal multiple access; 2) With the value of residual interference increasing, the outage performance of terrestrial users with ipSIC isbecoming worse seriously; and 3) In frequent light shadowing of Shadowed-Rician fading brings the better outage probability compared to frequent heavy and average shadowing.

The deep convolutional neural network has strong representative ability, which can learn latent information repeatedly from signal samples and improve the accuracy of automatic modulation classification (AMC). In this paper, a novel compressive convolutional neural network (CCNN) is proposed for AMC, where different constellation images, i.e., regular constellation images (RCs) and contrast enhanced grid constellation images (CGCs), are generated as network inputs from received signals. Moreover, a compressive loss constraint is proposed to train the CCNN, which aims at capturing high-dimensional features for modulation classification. Additionally, CCNN utilizes intra-class compactness and inter-class separability to enhance the classification and robustness performance for the different orders of modulations. Simulation results demonstrate that CCNN displays superior classification and robustness performance than existing AMC methods.

This paper investigates the performance of reconfigurable intelligent surface assisted two-way non-orthogonal multiple access (RIS-TW-NOMA) networks, where a pair of users exchange their information through a RIS. The influence of imperfect successive interference cancellation on RIS-TW-NOMA is taken into account. To evaluate the potential performance of RIS-TW-NOMA, we derive the exact and asymptotic expressions of outage probability and ergodic rate for a pair of users. Based on the analytical results, the diversity orders and high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) slopes are obtained in the high SNR regime, which are closely related to the number of RIS elements. Additionally, we analyze the system throughput and energy efficiency of RIS-TW-NOMA networks in both delay-limited and delay-tolerant transmission modes. Numerical results indicate that: 1) The outage behaviors and ergodic rate of RIS-TW-NOMA are superior to that of RIS-TW-OMA and two-way relay OMA (TWR-OMA); 2) As the number of RIS elements increases, the RIS-TW-NOMA networks are capable of achieving the enhanced outage performance; and 3) By comparing with RIS-TW-OMA and TWR-OMA networks, the energy efficiency and system throughput of RIS-TW-NOMA has obvious advantages.

An air-to-ground downlink communication network consisting of a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is proposed. In conjunction with a resource allocation strategy, the system’s energy efficiency is improved. Specifically, the UAV equipped with a RIS starts from an initial location, and an energy-efficient unmanned aerial vehicle deployment (EEUD) algorithm is deployed to jointly optimize the UAV trajectory, RIS phase shifts, and BS transmit power, so as to obtain a quasi-optimal deployment location and hence improve the energy efficiency. First, the RIS phase shifts are optimized by using the block coordinate descent (BCD) algorithm to deal with the nonconvex inequality constraint, and then integrated with the Dinkelbach algorithm to address the resource allocation problem of the BS transmit power. Finally, for solving the UAV trajectory optimization problem, the complex objective function is transformed into a convex function, and the optimal UAV flight trajectory is obtained. Our simulation results show that the quasi-optimal deployment location obtained by the EEUD algorithm is superior to other deployment strategies in energy efficiency. Moreover, the instantaneous energy efficiency of the UAVs along the trajectory of searching the deployment location is better than other comparison trajectories. Furthermore, the RIS-assisted multi-user air-to-ground communication network can offer up to 145% improvement in energy efficiency over the traditional amplify-and-forward (AF) relay.
