The aim of the study was to investigate the possibility of using infrared (IR) thermography for assessing muscle fatigue during low effort. Three tests at constant levels of load 5, 15 and 30% of maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) lasting 5 min each were performed on a group of 10 men. Temperature and electro-myographic (EMG) signal were registered from biceps brachii (BB). Analysis focused on the influence of load on the values and changes in time of muscle temperature. Correlations between temperature and EMG parameters (RMS, MPF and MF) were also analysed. Constant load sustained during the tests resulted in an increase in the temperature of BB. There were statistically significant correlations between temperature and EMG parameters for most subjects. Results of the study suggest that IR thermography can be an alternative or supplementary method for assessing muscle fatigue at low levels of contraction.

In the proposed paper, non-equilibrium and equilibrium models of heat and moisture transfer through wet building materials are presented and compared. In the former, the mass transfer between liquid and gaseous moisture results from the difference between the partial pressure of water vapor and its saturation value. In the second model, the equilibrium between both phases is assumed. In the non-equilibrium model, liquid moisture can be in the continuous (funicular) or discontinuous (pendular) form. The transfer of moisture for each proposed model is tightly coupled with the energy transfer, which is assumed to be an equilibrium process. The time step and grid size sensitivity analysis of both numerical models are performed primarily. The verification of the model is based also on the numerical data available in literature. Finally, obtained with considered models, temporal variations of moisture content in three locations in the computational domain are compared. Reasonable conformity of results is reported, and discrepancies related to differences in formulations of models are discussed.

The paper presents the initial approach to mathematical and numerical modelling and optimization of heat and mass transfer in elements of the masonry wall. The considered single moist brick is placed in the channel through which the dry air is flowing. Only one wall of the brick is in contact with the flowing air and through this boundary heat and moisture are exchanged. The non-equilibrium mathematical model is formulated for general case with three phases of moisture present in the porous building material, i.e., water vapour in the moist air filling the pores, liquid water (bound water) adsorbed at the surface of the solid component of the material and free liquid water either in a discontinuous form (funicular) or continuous one (pendular). However, at this stage of development of the numerical model the moisture in the form of motionless liquid water and water vapour which reside in the ceramic material are considered. Moreover, the moisture and heat diffusion in the porous hydroscopic material of the brick as well as moisture and heat convection in the flowing air are assumed. The numerical model is developed with the aid of the commercial software ANSYS Fluent and its advanced customisation functionalities like the User-Defined Function, User-Defined Scalar and User-Defined Memory. Subsequently, investigation of the influence of the mass transfer coefficient between the free liquid water and moist air in the porous building material are carried out.
