Dr. Begoña Olmedilla-Alonso holds a Doctorate in Pharmacy (PhD) from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain) and a degree in clinical research methodology (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain). She has been a research scientist at the Institute of Food Science, Technology and Nutrition (ICTAN) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) since 2006. Previously, she worked for more than twenty years at the Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro (Spain, 1987–2006). She has published more than two hundred scientific papers (http://www.researcherid.com/rid/D-1337-2012; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4913-5171). Her research areas are carotenoids (lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene, a-carotene, b-carotene and b-cryptoxanthin) and vitamins (analysis, nutritional status, bioaccessibility and bioavailability in humans), carotenoid biomarkers (of intake, status, visual function, CV risk, etc.) and functional foods (design and evaluation of their effect in humans). She has been accredited by AENOR in the Comité Européen de Normalisation as an expert in the horizontal method of food analysis (vitamins and carotenoids) (2005–2023). She has served as an expert reviewer for international scientific research calls and a member of the editorial board of a number of international boards (e.g., Brit. J. Nutr., Eur. J. Nutr., Nutrients, etc.).
