In this article, amino functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared by chemical modification of the surface of a MWCNTs using γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and dispersed into the epoxy composition. The modifying agent (APTES) was directly deposited on the MWCNTs surfaces. For the functionalization of MWCNTs, was used not the APTES concentrate, as it had been described in previous works, but its freshly prepared aqueous solution. Properties of APTES-treated MWCNTs were characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM), Raman spectroscopy and FT-IR. The results showed that the functionalization and chemical compatibility of APTES-treated MWCNTs with epoxy composition provides their best dispersion in the epoxy composition, had important influence on curing behavior, structure and physicochemical properties of the epoxy composites plasticized with trichloroethyl phosphate. The results showed that the functionalization and chemical compatibility of APTES-treated MWCNTs with epoxy composition provides increased of physicomechanical properties of epoxy composites: bending stress increases by 194% and bending modulus increases by 137%, the tensile strength increases by 108% and the tensile elastic modulus increases by 52%, impact strength increases by 300%, in comparison with plasticized epoxy composite that does not contain MWCNTs.
The possibility of using graphene oxide as a modifying additive for polymer fiber-reinforced composites based on epoxy resin and basalt roving has been studied. The content of graphene oxide in the system has been experimentally selected, which has the best effect on the physico-mechanical properties of the obtained polymer composite material. The efficiency of the modification of the graphene oxide surface with APTES finishing additives and aminoacetic acid, which provides chemical interaction at the polymer matrix–filler interface, has been considered. The influence of graphene oxide and functionalizing additives on the polymer curing process was investigated using the thermometric method and differential scanning calorimetry.
This paper considers modern sorption materials for wastewater treatment. The literature data on wastewater treatment with materials based on graphene and chitosan are presented. The production and application of composite sorbents is discussed. It is shown that a promising application of graphene oxide (GO) as a filler enhances the mechanical and sorption properties of the polymer matrix. The biopolymer chitosan (Ch) is a challenging matrix for GO, having unique sorption, chelate-forming, ion-exchange, and complex-forming properties. Composite adsorbents based on graphene oxide and chitosan have a high extraction efficiency of heavy and radioactive metals, dyes, and pharmaceutical compounds dorzolamide and tetracycline. GO-Ch composites with various ratios of chitosan and graphene oxide (2–7%) were formed by drop granulation. The composites obtained were investigated in terms of the ability to extract copper cations from the effluents, and it was shown that the composite having the content of GO:Ch = 55.5:44.5% (by mass in dry granules) had the best sorption and mechanical properties. This sample had high purification efficiency from copper cations (96%) and the required mechanical properties (attrition ≤ 0.4%, grindability ≤ 4%). For this sample, the influence of various factors (pH, sorbent dosage, temperature, and time of sorption) on sorption processes were studied. The best conditions for the sorption processes by the GO-Ch sorbent were determined. The sorbent dosage was 20 g/L, the sorption time was 20 min, and the temperature was 20 ± 2 °C, pH = 7. The adsorption isotherm was plotted and the maximum sorption capacity of copper cations A = 58.5 mg/g was determined. Microstructural and infrared (IR) spectroscopy studies of GO-Ch composites showed the presence of a porous surface and OH- and C=O functional groups. A mechanism for the extraction of copper cations due to physical sorption of the porous surface by GO-Ch composites, and due to chemisorption processes by functional groups, was proposed. The sorption properties for methylene blue and iodine absorption, and the specific surface area of the GO-Ch samples, were determined. The spent sorbent is proposed to be used as a soil improver.
As a result of the research, the possibility of directional control of the operational properties of epoxy composites by the use of small additives of thermally expanded graphite-graphene structures has been proved. The rational content of the structuring additive in the composition of the epoxy composite (0.05 parts by mass.) was selected, which ensured an increase in the studied complex of physico-mechanical properties. The influence of thermally expanded graphite on the process of structure formation of an epoxy composite has been established. The addition of thermally expanded graphite increases thermal, fire and heat resistance as well as the coefficient of heat-conducting epoxy composite.

The electrochemical method for synthesizing multilayer graphene oxide by the anodic oxidation of disperse graphite in sulfuric acid is proposed. The possibility of sequential dispersion of graphite in the course of its electrochemical oxidation, hydrolysis, and thermolysis is demonstrated. It is shown that the resulting nanostructured materials tend to form agglomerates in aqueous dispersions. When treated with supersonic, the size of oxidized graphite particles decreases noticeably and they form multilayer graphene oxide. Thermolysis (250°С) leads to a considerable expansion of oxidized graphite particles (the inflation coefficient 1490 cm3 g–1) and reduction of oxygen-containing functional groups. The structure of thus obtained material includes polygraphene sheets with the thickness of 0.01–0.1 µm and contains pores of 1–10 µm.
