Stomatal conductance (gs), the process that governs plant carbon uptake and water loss, is fundamental to most Land Surface Models (LSMs). With global change accelerating, more attention should be paid to investigating stomatal behavior, especially in extremely arid areas. In this study, gas exchange measurements and environmental/biological variables observations during growing seasons in 2016 and 2017 were combined to investigate diurnal and seasonal characteristics of gs and the applicability of the optimal stomatal conductance model in a desert oasis vineyard. The results showed that the responses of gs to environmental factors (photosynthesis active radiation, PAR; vapor pressure deficit, VPD; and temperature, T) formed hysteresis loops in the daytime. The stomatal conductance slope, g1, a parameter in the unified stomatal optimal model, varied in different growing seasons and correlated with the soil-to-leaf hydraulic conductance (KL). These results indicated the potential bias when using a constant g1 value to simulate gs and highlighted that the water-use strategy of oasis plants might not be consistent throughout the entire growing season. Our findings further help to achieve a better understanding of stomata behavior in responding to climate change and encourage future efforts toward a more accurate parameterization of gs to improve the modeling of LSMs.

As a major component of water cycle, the accuracy quantification of different precipitation products is critical for evaluating climate change and ecosystem functions. However, a lack of evidence is available to choose a precise precipitation product in relative applications. Here, to solve this limit, we analyze the spatiotemporal pattern and accuracy of four precipitation products, including CHIRPS V2.0, PERSIANN-CDR, ECMWF ERA5-Land, and GLDAS_NOAH025_3H, over China during the period of 1981–2020, based on the five precipitation traits (i.e., spatial pattern of multi-year average, annual trend, seasonality, frequency, and intensity), and meteorological gauge observations are taken as the benchmark. Our results show that, compared to other products, CHIRPS data has the strongest ability to present spatial pattern of multi-year average precipitation, especially in most parts of northeastern and southern China, and ERA5 has the weakest ability to simulate the multi-year average precipitation. All four precipitation products can accurately depict the spatial pattern of seasonality, among which CHIRPS and ERA5 have the highest and lowest fitting ability, respectively, but four products poorly describe the spatial pattern of precipitation intensity and frequency at a daily scale. These products only correctly predict the interannual precipitation trend in some local areas. Our findings provide evidences to select high-quality precipitation data, and could help to improve the accuracy of relative geophysical models.

The northeastern margin of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau is an ecologically fragile region that faces severe habitat fragmentation, which directly threatens regional biodiversity conservation and ecological security. To address this challenge, this study constructed a hierarchical “source-corridor-node” ecological network for the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture by integrating Morphological Spatial Pattern Analysis (MSPA), the Minimum Cumulative Resistance (MCR) model, landscape connectivity assessment, and gravity modeling. The key results are as follows: (1) The Gannan Yellow River Water Source Replenishment Area contains 11 core ecological source regions, which are predominantly located in the southeastern regions of Diebu County and Zhouqu County, covering a total area of 4237.81 km2; (2) Ecological resistance analysis identifies high-resistance zones concentrated in anthropogenically active river valleys and urban belts (e.g., Hezuo urban area, Awanzang Town, and the G213 corridor). Low-resistance zones are predominantly situated in protected ecological enclaves (e.g., Zhagana Geopark and Gahai Wetland Reserve); (3) A total of 55 ecological corridors were identified, with a total length of 4355.77 km. Among these, 26 were classified as key ecological corridors, primarily distributed in Diebu and Zhouqu counties in the eastern part of Gannan Prefecture. These areas feature relatively concentrated ecological sources, and the key corridors play a critical role in connecting isolated ecological patches and maintaining regional ecological connectivity. (4) Across the entire territory of Gannan Prefecture, a total of 81 first-level ecological nodes and 53 second-level ecological nodes were delineated. As the core hub of the regional ecological network in Gannan Prefecture, Diebu County encompasses 60 First-level and 41 Second-level ecological nodes, respectively. The hierarchical “source-corridor-node” ecological network constructed in this study effectively enhances the overall landscape connectivity of the area. This progressive analytical framework—integrating source identification, corridor extraction, and node diagnosis—provides a scientific basis for biodiversity conservation, territorial ecological restoration, and sustainable development in high-altitude ecologically fragile zones.
