Dr. Julio Plaza-Diaz is a postdoctoral scientist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute in Ottawa, ON, Canada. He graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile with a degree in pharmacy in 2009. He obtained his master’s degree in advances in microbiology from the University of Granada in 2011 and his Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Granada in 2014. After finishing his Ph.D., he began a postdoctoral position at the Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology “José Mataix”, in the Biomedical Research Center, University of Granada from 2014 to 2019, participating in several research investigations and grants. In 2020, he received a competitive postdoctoral fellowship funded by “Fundación Ramon Areces” for 2 years at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute (Ottawa, Canada) from 2021 to 2022. His research focuses on the role of microbes in various diseases (autism spectrum disorder, breast cancer, among others), mechanisms of probiotic action, and omics and molecular technologies in nutritional and general studies. He was listed in the World’s Top 2% Scientists ranking by Stanford University in 2021 and 2022.
