Alzheimer’s disease is largely the underlying cause of dementia due to its progressive neurodegenerative nature among the elderly. The disease can be divided into five stages: Subjective Memory Concern (SMC), Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), Early MCI (EMCI), Late MCI (LMCI), and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Alzheimer’s disease is conventionally diagnosed using an MRI scan of the brain. In this research, we propose a fine-tuned convolutional neural network (CNN) classifier called AlzheimerNet, which can identify all five stages of Alzheimer’s disease and the Normal Control (NC) class. The ADNI database’s MRI scan dataset is obtained for use in training and testing the proposed model. To prepare the raw data for analysis, we applied the CLAHE image enhancement method. Data augmentation was used to remedy the unbalanced nature of the dataset and the resultant dataset consisted of 60000 image data on the 6 classes. Initially, five existing models including VGG16, MobileNetV2, AlexNet, ResNet50 and InceptionV3 were trained and tested to achieve test accuracies of 78.84%, 86.85%, 78.87%, 80.98% and 96.31% respectively. Since InceptionV3 provides the highest accuracy, this model is later modified to design the AlzheimerNet using RMSprop optimizer and learning rate 0.00001 to achieve the highest test accuracy of 98.67%. The five pre-trained models and the proposed fine-tuned model were compared in terms of various performance matrices to demonstrate whether the AlzheimerNet model is in fact performing better in classifying and detecting the six classes. An ablation study shows the hyperparameters used in the experiment. The suggested model outperforms the traditional methods for classifying Alzheimer’s disease stages from brain MRI, as measured by a two-tailed Wilcoxon signed-rank test, with a significance of < 0.05.

Users can interact with one another through social networks (SNs) by exchanging information, delivering comments, finding new information, and engaging in discussions that result in the production of vast volumes of data daily. These data, available in various forms, such as images, text, and videos, may be interpreted to reflect the user’s activities, including their mental state regarding depression. For example, depression is a chronic disease from which the vast majority of users suffer, and it has emerged as a significant issue relating to mental health on a global scale. However, because these data are scant, unfinished, and sometimes given inaccurately, it is challenging to make an accurate automated diagnosis from them. Even though several procedures have been utilized over the past few decades to diagnose depression, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques supply superior insights. Thus, in this study, we review several state-of-the-art ML and DL techniques in terms of the systematic literature review (SLR) approach for depression detection. We also highlight some critical challenges from the existing literature that may help to explore for future study. Finally, we believe this survey will help readers and researchers in ML and DL to understand critical solutions in diagnosing depression.

The quality of water has a direct influence on both human health and the environment. Water is utilized for a variety of purposes, including drinking, agriculture, and industrial use. The water quality index (WQI) is a critical indication for proper water management. The purpose of this work was to use machine learning techniques such as RF, NN, MLR, SVM, and BTM to categorize a dataset of water quality in various places across India. Water quality is dictated by features such as dissolved oxygen (DO), total coliform (TC), biological oxygen demand (BOD), Nitrate, pH, and electric conductivity (EC). These features are handled in five steps: data pre-processing using min-max normalization and missing data management using RF, feature correlation, applied machine learning classification, and model’s feature importance. The highest accuracy Kappa, Accuracy Lower, and Accuracy Upper findings in this research are 99.83, 99.17, 99.07, and 99.99, respectively. The finding showed that Nitrate, PH, conductivity, DO, TC, and BOD are the key qualities that contribute to the orderly classification of water quality, with Variable Importance values of 74.78, 36.805, 81.494, 105.770, 105.166, and 130.173, respectively.

The problem of class imbalance is extensive for focusing on numerous applications in the real world. In such a situation, nearly all of the examples are labeled as one class called majority class, while far fewer examples are labeled as the other class usually, the more important class is called minority. Over the last few years, several types of research have been carried out on the issue of class imbalance, including data sampling, cost-sensitive analysis, Genetic Programming based models, bagging, boosting, etc. Nevertheless, in this survey paper, we enlisted the 24 related studies in the years 2003, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014 to 2019, focusing on the architecture of single, hybrid and ensemble method design to understand the current status of improving classification output in machine learning techniques to fix problems with class imbalances. This survey paper also includes a statistical analysis of the classification algorithms under various methods and several other experimental conditions, as well as datasets used in different research papers.

Music genre classification (MGC) is the process of putting genre labels on music by analyzing the sounds or words. With the rapid growth of music data repositories, MGC can be used in a lot of ways to organize and manage music recommendation systems, advertising, and streaming services. But there have been a lot of works on classifying English music using different statistical and machine learning methods, but there hasn’t been much progress in classifying Bengali music. Also, Deep Learning (DL) methods have been used in a few important ways to classify different types of music. The content and uniqueness of Bengali music make it much more interesting. Also, there is still a lot to learn about how to use the DL approach in Bengali music. So, Bengali music genre classification is a pretty new area of research in the field of Deep Learning. In this paper, we developed a unique technique called BMNet-5 to perform a multiclass classification of Bangla music genres such as "Bangla Adhunik," "Bangla Hip-Hop," "Bangla Band Music," "Nazrulgeeti," "Palligeeti," and "Rabindra Sangeet." We show the effectiveness of the suggested technique by extracting features from a dataset of 1742 Bangla music pieces and evaluating the automated classification judgments. The proposed BMNet-5 is based on a neural network designed to predict music genre from audio inputs. Our suggested model outperformed the corresponding previous research with an accuracy of 90.32%. The BMNet-5 model is then tested for performance consistency using K-fold cross validation with varying k values. Finally, we use the suggested model to train the interpretable SHAP model for all the genre of the Bangla music dataset, and the development of an explainable outcome may have a significant advantage.

Searching, retrieving, and arranging text in ever-larger document collections necessitate more efficient information processing algorithms. Document categorization is a crucial component of various information processing systems for supervised learning. As the quantity of documents grows, the performance of classic supervised classifiers has deteriorated because of the number of document categories. Assigning documents to a predetermined set of classes is called text classification. It is utilized extensively in a wide range of data-intensive applications. However, the fact that real-world implementations of these models are plagued with shortcomings begs for more investigation. Imbalanced datasets hinder the most prevalent high-performance algorithms. In this paper, we propose an approach name multi-class Convolutional Neural Network (MCNN)-Long Short-Time Memory (LSTM), which combines two deep learning techniques, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Time Memory, for text classification in news data. CNN’s are used as feature extractors for the LSTMs on text input data and have the spatial structure of words in a sentence, paragraph, or document. The dataset is also imbalanced, and we use the Tomek-Link algorithm to balance the dataset and then apply our model, which shows better performance in terms of F1-score (98%) and Accuracy (99.71%) than the existing works. The combination of deep learning techniques used in our approach is ideal for the classification of imbalanced datasets with underrepresented categories. Hence, our method outperformed other machine learning algorithms in text classification by a large margin. We also compare our results with traditional machine learning algorithms in terms of imbalanced and balanced datasets.
