Norihisa Miki received a PhD in mechano-informatics from the University of Tokyo in 2001. He developed the world's smallest drone using MEMS technology during his PhD study. Then, he worked at MIT on a microengine project as a postdoc (2001-2003) and later as a research engineer (2003-2004). He joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Keio University in 2004 as an assistant professor and became a full professor in 2017. He is the chair of the Committee for International Affairs of the Faculty of Science and Technology and the department chair for Mechanical Engineering.
His research interests started with the development of MEMS-based biomedical and human interface devices. Currently, he is also exploring the fields of medical engineering, neuroscience, and media arts using his innovative devices. He has published more than 100 archival journal papers. He was a researcher for JST PRESTO (Information Environment and Humans) from 2010 to 2016 and is currently a researcher for the Kanagawa Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (formerly the Kanagawa Academy of Science and Technology) from 2010 to the present. He co-founded the healthcare startup LTaste Inc. in 2017. He has been the president of the Skating Club of Keio University since 2018. He likes Cuban music and dance, watching and playing sports (ice skating, American football, golf, softball, boxing, etc.), fishing, movies, art, and more.
