Silvia Barbosa is a Chemical Engineer and has a PhD in Chemical Engineering. Her postdoctoral stage was at the University of Perugia. She is currently a Senior Researcher at Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) and Full Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Universidad Nacional del Sur (UNS). She is deputy director of Planta Piloto de Ingeniería Química (PLAPIQUI), an Institute that depends on UNS and CONICET. Her main lines of research involve the formulation and processing of polymeric materials, their blends, compounds and nanocomposites. Currently, her focus is on plastic sustainability and packaging development. She leads a research group of more than 10 people. She has directed 14 doctoral/master's theses in Argentina and Italy. She currently directs three researchers, two postdoctoral fellows, and four doctoral theses students. She is the author of more than 90 articles published in top-level international scientific journals, more than 20 book chapters, and one scientific book with international circulation. She proposed five national and international invention patents, of which four have already been granted, and she has presented more than 150 papers at national and international conferences. In addition, she is responsible for numerous national and international I+D projects. She has carried out multiple technological developments that she has transferred or co-developed with national and multinational companies.
