This study reports the optical, structural, electrical and dielectric properties of Poly (vinyl alcohol) thin films membranes with embedded ZnO nanoparticles (PVA/ZnO) obtained by the solution casting method at low temperature of deposition. Fourier Transform Infrared spectra showed the characteristics peaks, which correspond to O–H and Zn–O bonds present in the hybrid material. The X-ray diffraction patterns indicated the presence of ZnO structure into the films. The composite material showed low absorbance and a wide band of gap energy from 5.5 to 5.83 eV. The surface morphology for the thin films of PVA/ZnO was studied by Atomic Force Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy. The electrical properties of the membranes were also characterized by current-voltage characteristics and the DC conductivity showed Arrhenius behavior with values of activation energy from 0.62 to 0.78 eV and maximum conductivity at 2.4 × 10−12 S/cm. The dielectric properties of the nanocomposites were measured from low to high frequencies, and the results showed a high dielectric constant (ε) in the order of 104 at low frequency and values from ε ≈ 2000 to 100 in the range of 1 KHz–1 MHz respectively. The properties of PVA/ZnO such as the high permittivity and the low temperature of processing make it a suitable material for potential applications in the development of flexible electronic devices.
In this work, polyaniline (PANI) is synthesized via oxidative polymerization of aniline and purified using organic solvents where the emeraldine phase is isolated by employing a phase separation system. The above contributes to the increase in the percentage yield compared to previous works and the possibility of being used as a single phase. In addition, the PANI/AgNPs composite is prepared in situ at the polymerization of aniline, adding silver nitrate and glycine to create the AgNPs inside the PANI matrix by controlling the pH, temperature, time of reaction and incorporating a new purification technique.
In this work, we report the synthesis and purification of polyvinyl alcohol-polyaniline (PVA–PANI) copolymers at different aniline concentrations, and their molecular (1H-NMR and FTIR), thermal (TGA/DTG/DSC), optical (UV–Vis-NIR), and microstructural (XRD and SEM) properties before and after activation with glutaraldehyde (GA) in order to obtain an active membrane. The PVA–PANI copolymers were synthesized by chemical oxidation of aniline using ammonium persulfate (APS) in an acidified (HCl) polyvinyl alcohol matrix. The obtained copolymers were purified by dialysis and the precipitation–redispersion method in order to eliminate undesired products and compare changes due to purification. PVA–PANI products were analyzed as gels, colloidal dispersions, and thin films. 1H-NMR confirmed the molecular structure of PVA–PANI as the proposed skeletal formula, and FTIR of the obtained purified gels showed the characteristic functional groups of PVA gels with PANI nanoparticles. After exposing the material to a GA solution, the presence of the FTIR absorption bands at 1595 cm−1, 1650 cm−1, and 1717 cm−1 confirmed the activation of the material. FTIR and UV–Vis-NIR characterization showed an increase of the benzenoid section of PANI with GA exposure, which can be interpreted as a reduction of the polymer with the time of activation and concentration of the solution.
