Ben is an ecologist with an international reputation in general ant ecology and invasive ant species biology and eradication. Ben’s research model is predominantly to embed strategic science within real programs to influence management practices in real-time and improve on-ground outcomes. His early work was predominantly about ants as biological indicators for sustainable land management and conservation. His current research portfolio includes developing genetic control solutions for multiple invasive species, developing an ant ID App, advancing drone utility for difficult treatment areas, training biosecurity staff to instigate biosecurity emergency responses developing novel treatments for eradications, and quantifying the utility of detector dogs for eradication assessments. Ben is an invited member of the IUCN SSC Invasive Species Specialist Group.
