Differential privacy mechanisms can offer a trade-off between privacy and utility by using privacy metrics and utility metrics. The trade-off of differential privacy shows that one thing increases and another decreases in terms of privacy metrics and utility metrics. However, there is no unified trade-off measurement of differential privacy mechanisms. To this end, we proposed the definition of privacy-preserving monotonicity of differential privacy, which measured the trade-off between privacy and utility. First, to formulate the trade-off, we presented the definition of privacy-preserving monotonicity based on computational indistinguishability. Second, building on privacy metrics of the expected estimation error and entropy, we theoretically and numerically showed privacy-preserving monotonicity of Laplace mechanism, Gaussian mechanism, exponential mechanism, and randomized response mechanism. In addition, we also theoretically and numerically analyzed the utility monotonicity of these several differential privacy mechanisms based on utility metrics of modulus of characteristic function and variant of normalized entropy. Third, according to the privacy-preserving monotonicity of differential privacy, we presented a method to seek trade-off under a semi-honest model and analyzed a unilateral trade-off under a rational model. Therefore, privacy-preserving monotonicity can be used as a criterion to evaluate the trade-off between privacy and utility in differential privacy mechanisms under the semi-honest model. However, privacy-preserving monotonicity results in a unilateral trade-off of the rational model, which can lead to severe consequences.

Multiauthority ciphertext-policy attribute-based encryption (MA-CP-ABE) is a promising technique for secure data sharing in cloud storage. As multiple users with same attributes have same decryption privilege in MA-CP-ABE, the identity of the decryption key owner cannot be accurately traced by the exposed decryption key. This will lead to the key abuse problem, for example, the malicious users may sell their decryption keys to others. In this paper, we first present a traceable MA-CP-ABE scheme supporting fast access and malicious users’ accountability. Then, we prove that the proposed scheme is adaptively secure under the symmetric external Diffie–Hellman assumption and fully traceable under the -Strong Diffie–Hellman assumption. Finally, we design a traceable and revocable MA-CP-ABE system for secure and efficient cloud storage from the proposed scheme. When a malicious user leaks his decryption key, our proposed system can not only confirm his identity but also revoke his decryption privilege. Extensive efficiency analysis results indicate that our system requires only constant number of pairing operations for ciphertext data access.

With the rapid development of cloud computing and Internet of Things (IoT) technology, it is becoming increasingly popular for source-limited devices to outsource the massive IoT data to the cloud. How to protect data security and user privacy is an important challenge in the cloud-assisted IoT environment. Attribute-based keyword search (ABKS) has been regarded as a promising solution to ensure data confidentiality and fine-grained search control for cloud-assisted IoT. However, due to the fact that multiple users may have the same retrieval permission in ABKS, malicious users may sell their private keys on the Internet without fear of being caught. In addition, most of existing ABKS schemes do not protect the access policy which may contain privacy information. Towards this end, we present a privacy-preserving ABKS that simultaneously supports policy hiding, malicious user traceability, and revocation. Formal security analysis shows that our scheme can not only guarantee the confidentiality of keywords and access policies but also realize the traceability of malicious users. Furthermore, we provide another more efficient construction for public tracing.

With the widespread popularity of Wireless Mobile Networks (WMNs) in our daily life, the huge risk to disclose personal privacy of massive graph structure data in WMNs receives more and more attention. Particularly, as a special type of graph data in WMNs, the directed graph contains an amount of sensitive personal information. To provide secure and reliable privacy preservation for directed graphs in WMNs, we develop a node differential privacy-based method, which combines differential privacy with graph modification. In the method, the original directed graph is first divided into several sub-graphs after it is transformed into a weighted graph. Then, in each sub-graph, the node degree sequences are obtained by using an exponential mechanism and micro-aggregation is adopted to get the noised node degree sequences, which is used to generate a synthetic directed sub-graph through edge modification. Finally, all synthetic sub-graphs are merged into a synthetic directed graph that can preserve the original directed graph. The theoretical analysis proves that the proposed method satisfies differential privacy. The results of the experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented method in privacy preservation and data utility.
