Currently, the world is facing resource scarcity as the environmental impacts of human intervention continue to intensify. To facilitate the conservation and recovery of ecosystems and to transform cities into more sustainable, intelligent, regenerative, and resilient environments, the concepts of circularity and nature-based solutions (NbS) are applied. The role of NbS within green infrastructure in urban resilience is recognised, and considerable efforts are being made by the European Commission (EC) to achieve the European sustainability goals. However, it is not fully evidenced, in an integrated way, which are the main NbS implemented in the urban environment and their effects. This article aims to identify the main and most recent NbS applied in urban environments at the European level and to analyse the integration of different measures as an innovative analysis based on real cases. For this purpose, this work presents a literature review of 69 projects implemented in 24 European cities, as well as 8 urban actions and 3 spatial scales of implementation at the district level. Therefore, there is great potential for NbS adoption in buildings and their surroundings, which are still not prioritized, given the lack of effective monitoring of the effects of NbS.

Currently, there is extensive research focused on automatic strategies for the segmentation and classification of 3D point clouds, which can accelerate the study of a landmark and integrate it with heterogeneous data and attributes, useful to facilitate the digital management of architectural heritage data. In this work, an automated image-based survey has been exploited a Region- Based Convolutional Neural Network. The training phase has been executed providing examples of images with the anomalies to be detected. At the same time, a laser scanning process was conducted to obtain a point cloud, which acts as a reference for the BIM process. In a final step, a process of projecting information from the images onto the BIM recreates the pathology shapes on the model’s objects, which generates a decision support system for the built environment. The innovation of this research concerns the development of a workflow in which it is possible to automatize the recognition and classification of defects in historical buildings, to finally interpolate this geometric and numerical information with a BIM methodology, obtaining a representation and quantification of the information adapted to the facility management process. The use of innovative techniques such as artificial intelligence algorithms and different plug-ins becomes the main strength of this project.

The construction sector generates large amounts of heterogeneous and dynamic data characterized by their fragmentation throughout the life cycle of a project. Immediate and accurate access to that data is fundamental to the management, decision-making and analysis by construction owners, supervisors, managers, and technicians involved in the different phases of the project life cycle. However, since construction project data are diverse, dispersed, uncorrelated, and difficult to visualize, a reliable basis for decision-making can rarely be established by the management team. Aiming to bridge this gap, a methodology for data management during building construction by means of Data with BIM and Business Intelligence (BI) analysis tools was developed in this study. This methodology works by extracting data from 3D parametric model and integrating it with a BI tool, through which data are visualized and interrelated with the same database, the BIM model. To demonstrate the applicability of the methodology, a study case was carried out. It was shown that this methodology provides a collaborative platform for accurate data analysis to the construction management and supervision teams, allowing project stakeholders to access and update data in real-time, in permanent linkage with the BIM model. Additionally, improving the reliability of the decision-making process and ensuring project deliverability, the developed methodology contributes to a more sustainable management process by decreasing errors and resource consumption, including energy. Therefore, the main goal of this study is to present a methodology for data analysis with BIM models integrated with BI for sustainable construction management.
