In recent years, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become the trend for different types of research and applications. UAVs can accomplish some technical and risky tasks while still being safe, mobile, and inexpensive to operate. However, UAVs need flying ad-hoc networks (FANET) to operate in inaccessible or infrastructure-less areas. Subsequently, in many military and civil applications, the UAVs are connected ad hoc. FANET-based UAV systems have been developed for search and rescue, wildlife surveys, real-time monitoring, and delivery services. Maintaining the reliability and connectivity among UAV nodes in FANET becomes challenging because of the UAV movement, environmental conditions, energy efficiency, etc. Energy-aware routing protocols have become essential for developing advanced and effective FANETs. This paper presents a proposed Cross-Layer and Energy-Aware Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (CLEA-AODV) routing protocol for improving FANET performance. The CLEA-AODV protocol is mainly divided into three sections: routing with AODV protocol, Glow Swarm Optimization (GSO)-based Cluster Head Selection, and Cooperative Medium Access Control (MAC). The cross-layer approach is implemented on the network layer and the data layer. The major parameters considered to evaluate the performance of the FANET are Packet Success Rate (PSR), Throughput (TP), End-to-End (E2E) delay, and packet drop ratio (PDR). The Network Simulator version 2 (NS2) is used to implement the CLEA-AODV protocol and evaluate the network performance. The results are compared with the standard AODV, Self-Organization Clustering-GSO (SOC-GSO), and Energy Efficient Neuro-Fuzzy Cluster-based Topology Construction with Meta-Heuristic Route Planning (EENFC-MRP) protocols. The results show that the CLEA-AODV surpasses these protocols in terms of PSR, TP, E2E delay, and PDR.

Nowadays, VANET (vehicular ad hoc network) is one of the key aspects of developing advanced intelligent transportation systems. Due to its huge mobility and rapid topology alteration, the network exposes to link failure that affects the firmness of the network and causes delay and congestion. Additionally, the dynamic change in the network routing affects the network’s security, makes it vulnerable to various attacks, and causes data loss. In order to overcome these drawbacks an efficient and highly secured routing protocol is needed. Subsequently, in this research, a new routing protocol is proposed that has the combination of quality of service (QoS)-aware cluster head (CH) selection and hybrid cryptography, which is named QoS+. The QoS+ protocol is mainly divided into QoS-based CH selection and hybrid cryptography modules. The CH selection module performs based on QoS parameters attempt to provide reliable and stable clusters and improve the firmness and connectivity during the communication process of the network. The hybrid cryptography module contains advanced encryption standard (AES) and elliptic curve cryptosystems (ECC) algorithms. It attempts to improve the security and privacy of the network. The QoS+ protocol is evaluated by a developed VANET simulator using NS2 software. The simulator consists of a network model, a load model, and an attack model. Various speed and transmission ranges and gray hole and wormhole attacks are used in the simulator. The outcome calculated from the performance analysis shows that the proposed QoS+ protocol has 7% to 24% higher message success rate, 500 to 800 higher packets normalized routing load, 350 to 550 Kbps higher throughput, 5% to 17% higher efficiency and 50ms to 12ms lower end to end delay when compared with the earlier works of ECHS and KMSUNET. The proposed QoS+ protocol also achieves superior performance in terms of CH efficiency, cluster member efficiency, and average cluster number with various speeds and transmission ranges.

In vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs), due to the fast-moving mobile nodes, the topology changes frequently. This dynamically changing topology produces congestion and instability. To overcome this issue, privacy-preserving optimization-based cluster head selection (P2O-ACH) is proposed. One of the major drawbacks analyzed in the earlier cluster-based VANETs is that it creates a maximum number of clusters for communication that leads to an increase in energy consumption which reflects in a degradation of the performance. In this paper, enhanced rider optimization algorithm (ROA)-based CH selection is performed and that optimally selects the CH so that effective clusters are created. By analyzing this, the behavior of the bypass rider’s CH is chosen, and this forms the optimized clusters, and during the process of transmission, privacy-preserving mobility patterns are used to secure the network from all kinds of malfunctions which are performed by the new vehicle blending and migration process. The proposed P2O-ACH is simulated using NS-2, and for performance analysis, two scenarios are taken, which contain a varying number of vehicles and varying speeds. For a varying number of vehicles and speeds, the considered parameters are energy efficiency, energy consumption, network lifetime, packet delivery ratio, packet loss, network latency, network throughput, and routing overhead. From the results, it is understood that the proposed method performed better when compared with earlier work, such as GWO-CH, ACO-SCRS, and QMM-VANET.

Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) can be described as a group of wireless mobile nodes that form a temporary dynamic and independent infrastructure network or a central administration facility. High energy consumption is one of the main problems associated with the MANET technology. The wireless mobile nodes used in this process rely on batteries because the network does not have a steady power supply. Thus, the rapid battery drain reduces the lifespan of the network. In this paper, a new Bat Optimized Link State Routing (BOLSR) protocol is proposed to improve the energy usage of the Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) protocol in the MANET. The symmetry between OLSR of MANET and Bat Algorithm (BA) is that both of them use the same mechanism for finding the path via sending and receiving specific signals. This symmetry resulted in the BOLSR protocol that determines the optimized path from a source node to a destination node according to the energy dynamics of the nodes. The BOLSR protocol is implemented in a MANET simulation by using MATLAB toolbox. Different scenarios are tested to compare the BOLSR protocol with the Cellular Automata African Buffalo Optimization (CAABO), Energy-Based OLSR (EBOLSR), and the standard OLSR. The performance metric consists of routing overhead ratios, energy consumption, and end-to-end delay which is applied to evaluate the performance of the routing protocols. The results of the tests reveal that the BOLSR protocol reduces the energy consumption and increases the lifespan of the network, compared with the CAABO, EBOLSR, and OLSR.

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are emerging to serve various types of applications for serving smart cities and intelligent transportation systems. There are several challenging factors for ensuring reliable and stable VANETs communications. VANETs clustering is essential functionality to serve routing protocols and enable reliable VANETs. Clustering algorithms for VANETs operate in a decentralized mode, which requires incorporating additional stages before deciding the clustering decisions and might create sub-optimality due to the local nature of the decentralized approach. In addition, the challenging architecture of the road environment can cause confusing clustering decisions. This problem becomes more challenging due to the evolving nature of clusters in VANETs in general and in 3D VANETs in particular. This paper attempts to solve the problem of VANETs in 3D road environments using a centralized clustering technique to develop a Cauchy density model. The model has been simulated by considering several simulation parameters including traffic, mobility, driving behavior, and road curvature. The simulator also includes an adjacency list that defines the road’s points and straight-line segments. The clustering technique of the Cauchy density model determines the mobility vector to enable adding vehicles to their respective clusters. The simulator has been implemented in MATLAB to perform complex scenarios in three locations of 3D road environments. A comparison with selected benchmarks shows the superiority of our model over the benchmarks models in which our model achieves an improvement percentage of 1%, 10%, and 3% for average cluster head duration, average cluster member duration, and clustering efficiency, respectively.

The spam is one of the illegal and negative practices that involves the use of email services to send unsolicited emails such as phishing for the purpose of scamming which influences the reliability of email. Investigations have been conducted from various perspectives in order to examine this spam problem and how it affects society. In this regard, many studies have been carried out with the aim of studying the effect of spam activity on finance, economy, marketing, business and management, while other studies have focused on studying the influence of spam on security and privacy. Consequently, the literature affords various anti-spam methods that blocks or filters spam emails. This paper investigates the existing anti-spam methods, highlights some current problems and carries out an improved anti-spam model. In this regard, a new agent-based of Multi-Natural Language Anti-Spam (MNLAS) model is proposed. The MNLAS model process in the spam filtering process of an email both visual information such as images and texts in English and Arabic languages. The Jade agent platform and Java environments are employed in the implementation of MNLAS model. The MNLAS model is tested on a 200 emails’ dataset and the results show that it is able to detect and filter various kinds of spam emails with high accuracy.
