Over the years, literature on the topic of destination resilience has gained increasing attention in different fields (strategic management; sociology; etc.). Therefore, the potentiality of resilience in the tourism field has stimulated the definition and the implementation of strategies, policies, and activities addressed to mitigate risks and seize opportunities through open innovation attitudes in times of crisis. This work aims to contribute to the debate on tourist destination resilience by proposing a conceptual framework of destination resilience and open innovation based on a bibliometric analysis. Moreover, this article is intended as a starting point for a wider discussion of factors that contribute to destination resilience and therefore provides the basis to develop a toolkit of matrixes and approaches. Findings reveal that resilience assessment, as well as in terms of performance, remain undiscovered. Moreover, the present research poses some unresolved questions, shaping interesting future research directions.

Purpose: This study aims to provide an overview of the evolution of knowledge on smart destinations and identify the key issues addressed in the smart destination research domain, the main themes and sub-themes and research gaps in smart destination research as well as the future research agenda to address those gaps. Design/methodology/approach: A bibliometric analysis of 409 studies published on smart destinations literature was conducted using the Bibliometrix R-package to provide a comprehensive review of studies published on smart destinations and identify the main research themes, gaps in the literature and future research opportunities. Findings: Based on the research findings, a conceptual model of smart destination research has been proposed. This conceptual model can serve as a foundation for further knowledge generation in this research area. The findings also shed light on future research directions, highlighting research opportunities for the exploitation of cutting-edge innovations and digitalization across various dimensions of smart destinations. Originality/value: Although past research has paid attention to the theme of smart destinations, this work advances scientific knowledge by providing a foundation for a new smart destination management paradigm focusing on accessibility, sustainability, digitization, experience co-creation and creativity as milestones.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of digital technologies on enhancing visitor engagement and behavioral intentions in cultural heritage settings within the metaverse. Design/methodology/approach: The work proposes an extended version of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to investigate the factors influencing individuals’ intention to engage in metaverse experiences in cultural heritage sites. To this aim, the research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing a questionnaire to collect data from participants. We selected 280 valid responses from cultural tourists. Then, the structural equation model (SEM) was developed to analyze the relationships between TPB and novel constructs, namely utilitarian value, hedonic value and social value and the endogenous latent variable of intention. Findings: The results emphasize that individuals’ intention to participate in metaverse experiences within cultural heritage sites relies on a multifaceted process. All the relationships are supported, except the influence of perceived behavioral control on intention to engage in metaverse cultural experiences. Originality/value: The originality of the research lies in its exploration of the influence of perceived hedonic, social and utilitarian values on visitors’ behavioral intentions within the context of metaverse museums.

Blockchain technology (BT) has attracted increasing attention in various research domains in recent years, particularly in the tourism industry where investments in blockchain-based solutions have witnessed remarkable growth. Scholars recognize BT as a disruptive innovation that has the potential to revolutionize the management of tourism processes and enhance traveler experiences. However, despite this growing interest, the literature on BT's application in the tourism sector is still in its early stages compared to other internet-related technologies. This research paper addresses the gap in understanding the challenges and opportunities of implementing and accepting BT within tourism. Specifically, it focuses on the critical aspects of security and trust, as they play pivotal roles in influencing tourists' behavioral intentions towards BT adoption. The study extends the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, incorporating security and trust as relevant antecedents, to comprehensively examine the dynamics driving BT adoption within the tourism context. The proposed model and findings contribute to filling the gaps in existing literature and offer valuable information for tourism players and policymakers to formulate strategies promoting BT acceptance in the tourism sector. By advancing understanding of BT adoption factors and end users' perspectives, this research facilitates the industry's transition towards integrated and seamless experiences for travelers, thus shaping the future of tourism through blockchain technology.

In recent years, there has been a notable shift in people's attitudes towards the environment, with an increasing emphasis on seeking out sustainable and eco-friendly destinations for their travel experiences. This evolving mindset has given rise to the pressing need for destinations to position themselves as a sustainable option. As the demand for services that prioritize sustainability continues to rise, the concept of a sustainable destination image has emerged as a pivotal marketing strategy to attract environmentally conscious tourists. This study employs the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to delve into tourists' intentions toward sustainable tourism. investigate the sustainable intentions of tourists, a quantitative study has been conducted in Naples (Italy) with a sample size of 503 participants, including both Italian and foreign tourists. The SmartPLS tool was used to evaluate the measurement and structural models using the partial least squares structural equation modelling method (PLS-SEM). After evaluating the model, the research hypotheses are tested to measure the influence of Sustainable Tourism Intentions. This research makes a significant contribution to the Theory of Planned Behavior by introducing and integrating two innovative constructs: Environmental Awareness (EA) and Sustainable Destination Image (SDI). By incorporating these elements, this research sheds light on these factors' critical role in shaping sustainable tourism intentions. The study explores the relationship between sustainable tourism and tourist behaviors, advocating for a collaborative approach between governments and service providers to promote sustainability, with destination image playing a pivotal role in shaping tourist behavior. Governments can drive positive change through regulations and incentives for eco-friendly practices. Prioritizing a sustainable destination image is essential for attracting environmentally conscious tourists, who increasingly seek eco-friendly destinations.
