Ir. Sugianto, M.Sc, Ph.D., obtained his bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Agriculture of Syiah Kuala University in 1991 in the field of Soil Science with a project on the effect of reducing the pH level of saline-soil for paddy fields. He received a Postgraduate Diploma in 1996 from the School of Surveying and Land Information at Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia. In 1997, at the same university, with his thesis on expert-systems for land evaluation using remote sensing data and GIS, he obtained his master's degree. In 2006, he obtained his Ph.D. from the School of Biological, Earth, and Environmental Sciences, The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, for his research on the functional data analysis of hyperspectral data for soil and vegetation analysis. His research interests are soil science, remote sensing applications for agriculture, the environment, land use planning, and coastal studies.
