Accurately and efficiently predicting the fuel consumption of vehicles is the key to improving their fuel economy. This paper provides a comprehensive review of data-driven fuel consumption prediction models. Firstly, by classifying and summarizing relevant data that affect fuel consumption, it was pointed out that commonly used data currently involve three aspects: vehicle performance, driving behavior, and driving environment. Then, from the model structure, the predictive energy and the characteristics of the traditional machine learning model (support vector machine, random forest), the neural network model (artificial neural network and deep neural network), and this paper point out that: (1) the prediction model of fuel consumption based on neural networks has a higher data processing ability, higher training speed, and stable prediction ability; (2) by combining the advantages of different models to build a hybrid model for fuel consumption prediction, the prediction accuracy of fuel consumption can be greatly improved; (3) when comparing the relevant indicts, both the neural network method and the hybrid model consistently exhibit a coefficient of determination above 0.90 and a root mean square error below 0.40. Finally, the summary and prospect analysis are given based on various models’ predictive performance and application status.

Bearing fault diagnosis is of great significance for ensuring the safety of rotating electromechanical equipment. A deep learning network framework for diagnosing bearing faults under multiple load conditions is proposed to address the problems of extracting a single feature scale from bearing vibration timing signals, inability to simultaneously utilize spatial and bidirectional time features, and difficulty in obtaining sufficient training data under multiple working conditions. The first and second convolutional layers of a convolutional neural network (CNN) are used to simultaneously extract the spatio-temporal features from the bearing vibration signal and fuse them to obtain multi-scale spatiotemporal features. Based on this, BiLSTM is further applied to extract the bi-directional temporal correlation features of the input sequence. By introducing an attention mechanism (AM) to assign greater weights to critical spatio-temporal features, a new multi-scale deep learning network which integrates CNN, BiLSTM, and AM (MSCNN-BiLSTM-AM) network is proposed to obtain key bearing state features and accurate fault diagnose results. To further improve the adaptability of the network to different load conditions, the parameters of pretrained MSCNN-BiLSTM-AM network are applied to initialize the new task model parameters. After that, the new task diagnostic network is trained and validated under new load conditions by freezing the parameters of CNN, BiLSTM and AM layer, and fine-tuning the parameters of the fully connected layer and output layer. The experiments verify the excellent performance of the proposed method, while effectively solving the challenges of model training and fault diagnosis when there are insufficient training samples under multiple working conditions.

An improved YOLOv8 detection method is proposed for detecting distracted driving behavior and driver’s emotion. Unlike the commonly used YOLOv8 method, an attention mechanism named MHSA and a CNN module are synthesized to ensure improved performance in terms of accuracy and convergence, where MHSA is used to detect distracted driving behavior and CNN is used to detect driver’s emotion. The FER2013 dataset and collected dataset are used to train the improved YOLOv8. The training results show that the proposed YOLOv8 demonstrates improved performance compared with the commonly used YOLO based methods. Finally, the validity of the proposed YOLOv8 method is illustrated through implementations in Jetson Nano platform, where the TensorRT and DeepStream methods in the Jetson Nano device are used to optimize the volume and operational speed of the proposed YOLOv8 method, respectively. Test results show that the proposed YOLOv8 method can yield better real-time and accuracy properties.

The frequent traffic accidents lead to a large number of casualties and large related financial losses every year; this serious state is owed to several factors; among those, driving behavior is one of the most imperative subjects to discuss. Driving behaviors mainly include behavior characteristics such as car-following, lane change, and risky driving behavior such as distraction, fatigue, or aggressive driving, which are of great help to various tasks in traffic engineering. An accurate and reliable method of driving behavior recognition is of great significance and guidance for vehicle driving safety. In this paper, the vehicle multisensor information, vehicle CAN bus data acquisition system, and typical feature extraction methods are summarized at first. And then, several driving behavior recognition models based on machine learning and deep learning are reviewed. Through a detailed analysis of the features of random forests, support vector machines, convolutional neural networks, and recurrent neural networks used to build driving behavior recognition models, the following findings are obtained: the driving behavior model constructed by traditional machine learning model is relatively mature but it is greatly affected by feature extraction, data scale, and model structure, which affects the accuracy of the final driving behavior recognition. Deep learning model based on a neural network has achieved high accuracy in identifying driving behavior, and it may gradually become the mainstream of constructing the driving behavior model with the development of big data, artificial intelligence technology, and computer hardware. Finally, this paper points out some content that needs to be further explored, to provide reference and inspiration for scholars in this field to continue to study the driving behavior recognition model in depth.

In this paper, a novel H∞ control method in two time scales is proposed for active suspension systems. Two time scales are considered based on the natural time scale separation existing in the active suspension systems, i.e. the sprung mass part corresponding to the fast dynamics and the unsprung mass part corresponding to the slow dynamics. Singular perturbation theory is used to establish a dual time scale active suspension model and design a H∞ controller. Compared with the commonly used H∞ controller, the time-sharing dynamic characteristics make the proposed two time scales H∞ controller have better dynamic response when encountering dynamic road input, so as to better meet the control performance requirements of active suspension. The effectiveness of the proposed H∞ control method in two time scales is illustrated through co-simulations.

To solve the power limitation problem faced by the development of EPS system for commercial vehicles and achieve the high-performance steering, this article presents a novel dual power-driven electric power steering system (DPEPS) for commercial vehicles by using the open winding permanent magnet synchronous motor (OPMSM) fed by dual inverter with high and low DC voltage supplies. First, the two-level control strategy is introduced for the developed DPEPS system, where the upper control is designed to make the actual steering follow the expected steering performance as determined by the assistant torque curve and to generate the appropriate target current according to the vehicle speed and steering torque. And then the lower control consists of the synthetical space vector control scheme and dual PI control loop is used to execute commands from the upper control, which can make the motor execute the appropriate power supply method according to the steering torque and assist current. Finally, a co-simulation model is carried out for an electric bus, and based on which the proposed DPEPS system is validated.
